Looking for a used 993

Hi,

I have a 964 C4 90/H that I am looking to upgrade to an early 993.

I have a budget of between 20-25k and am looking for a good car that needs no work.

I have seen a few cars on the internet with dealers but would like to save some money and buy privately if possible.

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

Anyone looking for a nice 964 C4 in Slate Grey, Grey Leather, working air con, sr, alarm, computer, teardrop mirrors, cup alloys and recently serviced?

Thanks again

Rob

Rob (or is that Mr Shark?)

I think you're making the right choice (but I would say that, having just gone through the same process myself - search for my posts if you are interested). I've only limited experience of 964s but by comparison, my 993 felt more modern (ie more refined and less raw) and of course slightly more powerful. The more even front-rear weight distribution of the 993 improved handling over the 964, I understand, and I've read that there is little difference between the C2 and C4 in almost all conditions.

At that budget you could get a very good choice of LHD cars or you'd be at the very bottom price for RHD 993s. Beware of LHD cars with foreign or no service history as you'd be taking a gamble buying one that had been imported.

If you absolutely cannot stretch to £26-28K - rough pricing for good 1994-95 RHD cars - then maybe you'd be in a better position to be fussy about which LHD 993 you get.

Either way you will be very happy driving it. The 993 is an air-cooled, curvy dream.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice.

Went to a well know specialist at the weekend and looked at some 993's which were all very nice but nothinh I liked at my price - was going up to £30k with some finance.

Didnt feel that for twice the price of my 964 that there was twice the improvement. Granted much better in every way but wasnt sure it was worth 16k over mine.

Just before I left I noticed a 996 for the same price (milage a bit high @ 80k) but a completely different car and felt it was worth the difference and bought it.

Doesnt feel as sharp/raw/purist as the 964 C4 but wee shall see.

Many thanks for all the info/advice.

Rob
