Looking for a track project

RC18B 911 turbo

New member
I was just thinking of getting a car for track days and it occurred to me that a 944 would do the job fantastically. I haven't had one for years and my current stable are no good on track both to loud and neither particularly track oriented.
I haven't been on this forum in ages but was wandering what people's opinions would be for a S2 or turbo as a good base car before modding. I'm guessing turbo as I'd probably want big power eventually.

One of the guys up here is selling a really nice 968 club sport. Loads of good track fun to be had with that one. You can find him on here RTH 45 is his sign in name. But if you are interested I can put you on to him.The car is spot on not a mark on it and it already has a few track orientated mods done to it.

This is it I believe;

The Guys name is Richard Taylor, RHT45, if you are interested contact him direct through forum as ebay link is selling through an Agent. Very nice car.

Alan.

This car is stunning. I've have had the pleasure of having a really good look over it.Richard keeps it in top notch condition it has a few tasty mods done to it,he also has a spare set of wheels and a few other bits and bobs.I would buy it if I could justify the cost and another car.It would be good to see it go to someone who would love it the way it deserves to be loved.

That car looks far too good to be a 'track project' though.

For that money you could buy a fully prepped EMC race car. Track day, sprint/hill climb or full race ready! No fears of upsetting people with messing around an original rare car.

What I was thinking too. I would look for a car that someone has already prepared for proper track use rather than bastardise that particular one. That's coming from someone who
bastardised a particularly nice 951...[&:]

Well in fairness, I'm more one for seeing cars get used properly regardless of condition, for example my Lambo I've had a month and already added 2.5k miles to it, it's filthy but will clean up nicely.
Cars like this were built to be used for their intended purpose and cost isn't much of an issue so I can do any tarting work to keep it tip top as required. I am quite fussy about my cars after all.

Better to start with a 968 Sport. Its the same car with a couple of minor additions; but it costs half as much. Some of the prices asked / paid for Club Sports are ridiculous. My car sold for less when it was still relatively new, than some comedians are asking now for pretty much worn out cars.

Amusingly, the same bandwagon-jumping fanboys whove caused the prices to rise so much wouldnt entertain a Sport. I dont think that theres one reason to buy a CS if youre looking for a prepared track car.

How track focused are you looking for? I've got what essentially is a "brand new" road legal class1 968 race car. Non sunroof, fibreglass panels in maritime blue that I'm selling.

It's quite a bit more expensive than RHT's car though....

Lali's car is a full yroad legal race car, suspension engine the works, looks superb!
Just to confirm I have no interest in the car, have met Lali once though!

How about this? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3320555.htm would probably be cheaper than doing it yourself...

I am looking for proper track focused I would say, I don't mind doing the necessary upgrades myself as I've done it before and know that the right setup with KW coil overs works very well. Having it more stripped out than I did it would be great though.
That S2 looks fantastic though, I am rather tempted to go for a turbo though as I know I can get good power out of that and I've kind of got accustomed to that now.

Hi there i did a track project last year and it was great,EMC did the metal/body and suspension work, depends how far you want to go there is a thread somewhere detailing the build and subsequent race season,I used a Turbo S changed the front end for plastic and put a welded roll cage in,it was totally road legal and great on trackdays and races, with a fraccy under 300bhp i could smoke very well prepared and BIG power cars racecars and mine was totally road legal. Was FUN.
Maybe someone here might point you to the thread,i have sold it since for great money i might add and had a lots of fun in it.
Promax did all the tuning on it of course[:)] One whole race season and it didnt miss a beat apart from when i swapped the turbo unit for wrong model by mistake! But it still won its class that race.Happy memories!...........
Look forward to seeing which way you go!!!

I know where Markk's car is now and I also know that the current owner could be tempted to sell it.....

As long as you have the budget, find a suitable Turbo and then make the mods to suit your taste. You've had a modified S2, and now that you are used to Diablo power, going back to something with around 220bhp is never going to interest you for long (IMHO).

I've had several Diablos (including a blue one!), ending with a yellow 6.0 lt with about 530 bhp. Hence when I decided to revisit the world of the 944, it had to be a Turbo. Mine currently has around 320 bhp, but there is the option of changing the MAF and fitting a different turbo if I need more power.

Or, how about the 3.2 lt conversion, giving around 400 bhp? Both are at JMG in Dorset (I was there earlier today) and one is available. It would benefit from a cage, exhaust and suspension tweaks for track work, but could all be achieved for less than the prices some are asking for 968 CS cars. Not an obvious choice, granted, but it is a beast!
