Looking at a 1973 Targa

I'm going to see an early 911 tomorrow (1973 Targa).

Would anyone kindly point me towards a good buyers guide?
(I did check the FAQ section, but nothing obvious in there)

I think I'll focus on confirming the identity first (this worries me the most).

The car is a non-runner, so some normal aspects of buyers guides will be a little unnecessary.

Hi.

Once you have looked over the basics and confirmed what the car is then you really need a professional inspection to determine what it is going to cost you to restore. Rot, rot and rot are the first 3 things to check. Restoration costs can be large on these cars as bodywork, engine and mechanicals all eat up money plus sourcing any missing parts.

If the car is a RHD Targa then I can probably tell you the spec when it was delivered and the correct engine number. Email me at the club with the chassis number (911@porscheclubgb.com).

It is now a RHD, but was originally manufactured as a LHD. Not run for 15 years.

... probably not a dead-cert for an MOT then!

It also has papers confirming duty was paid when it was imported.

 
Would u look to restore it? Might be better to get one already done. Phil raby has a nice lhd 1970 911t for sale. No affiliation but the expenditure to resolve the bodywork appears eye watering on these.
 
A conversion from L to RHD severely knocks the value of these cars, where originality is everything these days rather than ease of driving. It also means that the car was probably imported from the USA, so be very wary of chassis corrosion, which is largely ignored in the US.
