Just taken del of my new car ...06..987.2.7 Tip have to say it feels a lot nicer to drive than my previous 996 cab...to the issue It has standard head lights and are not very bright is there a recommend for a upgrade I beleive zenons are out as you have to have a wash facility to fit those .
 
I've put osram silverstar bulbs in all my cars as they are much improved - but I hear that these are even better:

You can order them from www.powerbulbs.com - don't know what size the new boxster takes, possibly still H7.

You can get xenon retro-fits and I believe the washers aren't actually a problem - its only if the car came fitted with washers that it requires them to work - doesn't apply to retro-fits.
 
add an aftermarket HID H7 4300 or 6000 kit, aftermarket HID does not need washers or self leveling - i know because i did my previous boxster and it passed MOT after MOT.
I paid £175 via E-Bay and they were perfect, i had the 6K kit, very slight tinge of blue but if you dont like that go for the 4300 kit, they are all about the same price.
Higher temperature ranges are available 8K, 10K and 12K, blue/ light purple and a rather deep purple.
The temperature range is not heat just a light temperature range, All HIDs produce less heat than a conventional bulb, they last 5 times longer and draw only 35 watts per bulb, at night they produce 2.5 times the light and give almost daylight qualities to colours.
I would not use the super white light bulbs as they are 100 watts each, place too much strain on the power circuits and develop a significant amount of heat that will eventually damage the clear lense, plus they dont perform anywhere near true HID.
Ignore the "Zenon" bulbs you see advertised for a tenner or so as they are standard bulbs, true HID come with a ballast and ignitor, dead easy to fit providing you can wire a houshold plug you can fit these yourself.

Incorrect - the bulbs above are 55W and won't do any damage to the car...

If you look down this page there is a good example of these against osram silverstar (which were themselves a significant upgrade on the stock bulbs)

I stand corrected, however many of the super white bulbs advertised are 100 watts though i accept others will be the standard 55 watts, but none will match the sheer light power of true HID

absolutely, but they're also a lot cheaper, a lot less hassle to fit and not going to raise any questions from buyers come resell....all "decent" makes are 55W - only the dodgy ones off fleabay are 100W "lens melters"
 
I used to deep water cave scuba dive .. the standard light used was a 50W halogen which in time got replaced by an 18 W HID... the HID had 2.5 times the battery life and was due to wavelenght / colour about 5 times btter in real in water pentration / usability...... all my cars now are spec'd with HIDs ..

Its not about watts .. its about usability
 
Took the HID kit out of the 986 and it in the 987 - didn't make the huge change in the better projector style headlamp of the 987 that they did in the 986, but still worthwhile . £200 for the kit and a couple of hours DIY versus two lots of factory xenons [:D] No washers to leave unsightly streaks down the wings either [:D][:D]
