leather seat repairs - contacts needed

Ummmm, how can I put this politely? I have used Classic Car Services near Leicester for a bolster re-cover, exactly as you are looking for Ed, in linen leather. On sports seats. They are indeed lovely people, but the quality of their workmanship isn't that high; I had to send it back to be re-done and even now the cover doesn't sit quite right on the seat.

Having said that the colour is great and the quality of the leather they used is top-notch.

Use with (slight) caution.

The others came back at £200 plus vat but he said to do both parts of the seat, but I only want the one piece repairing. Replied to them but they haven't replied in return though.

I can recommend a good one near Bracknell (which isn't THAT far from London). http://www.coachtrimmer.com/ Don't be fooled by the dull website. He did a good job on replacing the bolsters on my driver's seat.

I rang this guy, he retires on friday and isnt taking on anymore work

Boo!

he recommended this company:

ive emailed them..

I think I got a quote from them / visited their workshop. Professional but expensive was my recollection.

im thinking about buying the materials myself and taking it all to a seamstress that advertises locally, ile obviously talk to her first, but if you can sew you can sew right? do the covers just pull off?

J

You can pull them off, but they dont 'just pull off'. And they 'just go back together' as easily as something dismantled following a Haynes manual. [:D]

As Im sure that youre aware - you cant sew car upholstery on a curtain/dressmaking sewing machine either.

you cant? oh! lol

then im going to buy some of those black car covers with a porsche logo and forget the bloody hole...

Sorry to hear that Oli,was that after my reccomend? They trimmed my 205 completely and did a lovely job,my Black turbo front seats looks like absoloute new, very suprised to hear that [&o]

In my view you might as well invest a little more in the repair job and get it done properly otherwise it will just look crap. £200 doesnt seem that bad if he's doing the other bolster to match?

EDH if I was you I would not bother with the repair I've been looking a sport seat prices on Ebay recently they do not seem to bare much relation to condition perfect ones selling for less than £480 against real rubbish for £300, given the amount of time and effort doing the repair I would not bother[8|] If you really want to I would replace the piping in vinyl then repair the leather i've seen much worst repaired especially if your not keeping them...

having spent the past week fitting covers, I beleive the final effect is as much down to the fitting as the stiching, I did mine 3 times to get them perfect, too much tension on the listings is as bad as too little .....with the best will in the world I recon it takes 4 hours to fit a cover correctly[>:]

I have a good guide fit anyone wants to attempt it

Mark,

Yes, it was after your recommendation, but don't feel bad about it! They replaced the side panel with the hole in it (very like that pictured), and the piping around the top of the seat as well. When they re-stitched it they got the shape of the side bits just about right, but the curve at the top of the centre panel isn't right and it shows somewhat. It's not the end of the world, but in retrospect I wish I hadn't been quite so quick to fit it and asked them to re-do it instead ...

Oli.

Southbound might be able to provide you with the same vinyl that is on the back, you could always use that. Is there any marine fitters around your way as they would be able to help you, with regards to fitting them yourself pull cheap bin bags over the back and base first to help you slide the covers over the seat then reach in and pull out as much of the bin bags as you can.

On my last car the drivers bolster needed a bit of padding and I did the other side also to make sure the covers were nice and tight. Have a look on e bay for Armflex tape, this is what I used in a criss cross fashion.

Ed: Vaughan's number is 07950 331759 and he is far more helpful/charismatic than Gary Hubbard...
