Leak - gearbox seal?

Hi Guys

Need your advice.

Have been away for a while and not used the car. Drove the car and came back to see an oil stain on the drive. Don't think it's the RMS as that was replaced a couple of years ago. The oil wasn't the colour of engine oil so probably a gearbox seal weep.

How do I check the gearbox oil level? Secondly, if it's a gearbox seal, what's the likely damage if the seal needs to be replaced?

Thanks for your help.

IIRC you have a facelift Tiptronic. The transmissions can weep from various places:

Transfer case housing gasket - a gearbox out and stripdown job.
Oil pump on the input shaft - gearbox out, but no stripdown needed.
Sump gasket - a cheap and easy fix.

To check the level isn't easy. There is a level plug on the sump pan, but to check it the engine needs to be running, cold transmission fluid temp, and in drive.
