Le Mans track lap

For those that may be interested here is some footage of my Le Mans Classic track lap with Porsche Club France. On the Saturday morning of the Le Mans Classic various car clubs are allowed on track for 2-3 paid laps. For me it was the highlight of the weekend and will be remembered for a long time, such a great track to drive and there cant be many as iconic.

Look out for the person sitting 'outside' the 356, you gotta love the French for lack of health and safety.[:D]

Looked great Edd- I did the laps in 2008- Red 911 looked to cut in a bit I had a 328 fezza do that
only worse- my wife went very quiet in passenger seat.
A fantastic experience.
Cheers
Ron

Yeah it did, I backed off and let him out, the red GT3 would only have overtaken me again anyway, not sure why he waited so long to go around that slow silver 996. Was great day, you gotta love kw-v3...

Hi,

I was trying to find out how to organise a drive around the track.
Did you organise this before you went or when you were there?
Best wishes
Jason

Before I went, I had to do it through Porsche Club France (although other clubs do it aswell), issue is you have to buy entrance tickets at the sametime they will not just sell the track laps alone. Brian at 1st tickets who I had already booked entrance tickets kindly cancelled 1 general entrance ticket so I could order the Club France ones.

Turns out that Porsche Club France were also much cheaper than 1st Tickets as there general entrance fee with paddock pass was just 70euro compared to £103 though 1st tickets, infact next time I think I'll just use Porsche Club France as the discounts and freebies you get make much more sense.

Nice one Ed, enjoyed that yes you did get cut up by bthe red 997, certainly held your own, Peter seemed to enjoy it.

Absolutely brilliant, thanks for posting that.

Good to see the Spyder keeping you honest for a while :)

Bitterly regret not doing my homework so that I could have joined you. Roll on 2014, see you there!

Edd, can you expand on how exactly to buy through Porsche Club France and how, then, to buy the lap tickets too. If you can then I will save the page and use it to book them for myself in 2014.

Simon

Definately a red letter day for you then. Nice to see the S2 show in the boys in the fat beetles how it's done.

Well, when they are selling tickets on the site I linked you have a menu of items to choose for the Le Mans Classic (these are not available now but you can see the prices).

To get the track laps you need to buy at least one entrance and paddock pass, and one Porsche parking (parking in the Porsche Club France area, with all the other 'clubs parking'). If you select the track laps without these the club will send you an email telling you this it not possible. Its the normal add to basket, pay by debit card thing, entrance tickets were sent by post, track lap tickets were collected from the Porsche Parking area, not sure why but it all worked well in the end and now I know the system works for UK residents its a bit of a no brainer really.

You can also purchase camping at Karting Nord, breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Porsche club house (something I will do next visit for sure) and Porsche Club France hospitality, all discounted club rates that appear much cheaper then 1st tickets or travel decstinations. You need to supply your PCGB club membership number.

Would be good to see you there in 2014 Simon...

Not really a big boxster fan but find the spyder a different kettle of fish, lovely looking car and quick too. I took that chicane a little too fast and had so much speed coming out the other end I think I took him by surprise! The 944 S2 doesnt have masses of power but its true home appears to be on track where it just excels, especially on corners, 25 mins of pure driving pleasure not easily forgotten.

My Dad (passenger) now has a new found respect for what these cars are capable of too.[:)]

Thoroughly recommended if you ever get the opportunity....

This sounds interesting Edd, perhaps you'd be so kind as to give details nearer to 2014 when you order your tickets for then, I'd certainly be interested taking it that my cars back on the road then..:)

Sure, but being a turbo it'll probably end up on the back of that flatbed by the end of lap 2![:D][:)][:)]

Edd

haha.. now now Edd, not sure what you've been reading about Turbo's but they are just as reliable as other 944 models which means they rarely have a problem. My car has only once in 14 years needed a low loader for recovery and that was when the head gasket blew and I was too far from home to drive the car. So don't worry about me breaking down and just watch me fly past those other Porsches with ease...:)

I have fond memories of my 944 so I know what you mean.

Looks like the Porsches had better track etiquette than some of the other parade laps - there were a few complaints on Pistonheads about cars (and drivers) with vastly different abilities being sent out together, sometimes with expensive consequences.

I certainly think I will be taking you up on your recommendation, roll on 2014!!
