Knocking

I hope you can help; I have a 356a Coupe which seems to have developed a knocking from underneath the car only when the clutch is fully engaged, if I depress the clutch the knocking goes away. I pulled over and called a tow truck to get me home so I only drove a couple of hundred feet with the car in this condition.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

It sounds like the clutch release bearing is rattling as the car ticks over, I have just driven my 356B to Reims and back with a similar noise. Try getting the clutch cable adjusted so that the point of contact has the pedal near the floor and not too far up. I bet its nothing serious as the noise goes away when the clutch is fully depressed.
 
i had a similar knocking in my 912 which we couldn't trace untill the speedo cable snapped.. that solved the problem. [:D] .

you got it sorted ? what was it?
 
Yep it's getting sorted by PR Services, they narrowed it down to the transmission apparently the crownwheel had lost a few teeth so major open heart surgery is currently underway. [:(]
