Key fobs not operating trunk and engine cover- any advice

Hi. Just recently my main key 1 has stopped opening the trunk and engine cover. It locks and unlocks the car and starts no problem. The key 2 is also displaying the same problem. When either fob is used to activate the trunk/engine cover I see the receiver in the car light up but do nothing. I had the car in for an MOT and complimentary health check at main dealers and asked them check the key fob action but they appear not to have done anything as it still won’t operate the trunk/engine cover! Any idea what’s wrong?

Replying to myself🙄 After a deal of fiddling I can open the trunk with the key fobs but not the engine cover. Will investigate further but as I have a cabriole, if I hold the engine cover fob for too long the hood begins opening! Car electrics are such fun😕

Surely if you have already asked at a main dealer, they should have informed you of the reasons it doesn’t work…..

Have you tried any of the various resync procedures?

1. Take the offending key, holding the "lock door" button down
2. Put it in the ignition start the engine (still with button pressed)
3. Wait about 10 secs
4. switch the engine off, let go of the button now.
5. immediately (within six secs). press the lock button.

or

If you need to resync, start by placing the key in the ignition and moving it to the second position. From there, you'll need to hold down the unlock button on the key until a red light begins to flash on the dash.

Alas after a very protracted palava with finalising the MOT payment along with being relieved that it passed ok and a crazy storm chucking it down so much that I hurried an exit stage left I failed to clarify if the query over key fob issue had been addressed. I’ve tried all the sync operations without success unfortunately and will eventually try the dealers again at a later point but until then I guess I can live with using the interior engine cover switch and the trunk key fob operation does work🙂. Thanks for your inputs. Stuart.

Hi. I just want to apologise for misleading everyone with my post regarding the key fob operation and the engine cover. After a deal of researching,The third button does NOT operate the engine cover and I really don’t know why I thought it did🙄. It will open the top of course! I apparently seem to have convinced myself by confusing the front trunk/bonnet operation of the key fob and the engine cover but may also have been influenced by Jack Daniel’s or Glen fiddich and I was not driving either so again please forgive my stupidity and thanks for not chewing my head off!
