Janspeed stainless steel exhaust

I’m going to put a standard exhaust on my car but the Janspeed unit I have is in great condition
found the original bill was £1200 []when first installed
anyone know if this has any value if I put it on eBay??
thanks

It will have value Ken, I'd say you'd need to price it at £300 -£400, as you can get a custom stainless built on for £500-£600. I'm assuming here this is full system from turbo back? (and standard bore)

If so this rules out the modified boys with 3 inch down pipes, then the likes of myself, on a standard system, my original system is still perfect other than a new standard back box I put on about 10 years ago, so no need for it. So your market I think, is very small.

Were there a couple of different Janspeed versions, one with twin tail pipes and another with a single big oval? I wouldn't mind the oval version for my turbo.

You are correct Paul...back in the day Tony had the large oval whilst I chose the twin...??

Was the Janspeed a full or half systems Pete? I don't know who made the stainless twin back box on WUF, but Ben Burt rescued it out of a skip and let me have it. I had to make some baffles for it, but it still sounds quite loud.

Not sure about Tony... I only fitted the tailpipe, Tony may have been the same?
I like the fit of a twin pipe, still have one today although its now a full 3" system including turbo downpipe. The car easily made its 368bhp with the standard system, the janspeed was added later, didn't change the power but did improve the sound..??

Mine was cat replacement too, can't remember if it makes it all the way to the turbo, without having a look, but I think it does,
Tony

I have a twin pipe stainless steel backbox plus steel pipe with flange to suit the centre box-a little noisy but could be stuffed with wire wool etc.
Collect from Formby ,Merseyside £20.
Can send jpeg via email if anyone interested.

I think slightly under 3" and mine (not just the rear) had a front box in place of the cat as they found it made more power with one than with a straight pipe. Is there a short pipe on the turbo exit in the standard system (about 300mm?) if so i think the 'full' version goes to there rather than all the way to the turbo. still not been under the car to look though!
Tony

I've run exhausts with just a straight through back box on a couple of performance turbo cars, and they did loose some mid range. But they seemed to gain top end. I think some of the 944 Cup cars ran without much silencing too. I tried Janspeed exhausts on one of my 3.0 Capris many years ago, and it wasn't the loudest or most powerful system that I used on my V6 Capris.

I think the brief was also to remain trackday friendly - under 96dB form memory, Mine was the prototype (for ESS who had the systems made originally) hence the with and without front box runs on the dyno. I think the straight through pipe on Rick's (then Ben's) car (no silencers) came from the testing / development too,
Tony

Ben gave me the twin back box half system off of WUF. With no middle silencer on my car, it sounded like a Cup car/tractor, and dropped mid range. I fitted drilled tubes wrapped in steel wool into the back boxes, and it sounded better and as if by magic, the mid range was restored. My theory is, that the exhaust gases have cooled and contracted by the time they reach the back boxes, and the reduced dia of the baffles helped maintain gas speed.

That makes a lot of sense. Beaky has the big oval and was reputed to have been quite flamey. I would have thought high velocity flow is less likely to flame.
