I've put the car up for sale...whats it really worth?

Well, as the title suggests, its done and the car is up for sale :(

Totally genuine reason for sale - we're just going to need the money soon as we're moving house, looking to start a family, etc etc... Sad, but its a necessity I feel. I'm wondering, given all its had done to it, overall condition, and the few special bits and pieces it has on it - what is it really worth? Am I being unrealistic, or not?

Its up for £8995.00 as a guide price. Your thoughts and views are appreciated.

Not saying its not worth it but thats strong money for a S2, its a niche market for cabrio 944s and lots of competition from millions of cheap boxsters might make it a slow sale.

Totally hear what you're saying mate. These are all things that have gone through my head too, I guess it's just my wallet trying to tell me "nooooooo! You've got to try and get back some of that money, or when the missus finds out, we're both done for..." :) hehe

Honestly though, it's good getting feedback from you lot on this forum as you're honest, which is great. I definitely don't want the sale to hang around or go stagnant. Plan is to let is roll for a bit, if nothing else just in case the market has/is changing a bit, and if not we'll readdress with a view to just getting the 'right' price for it.

I am thinking about an eBay auction. The fact you can start something at £0.99 does seen to get people interested, which is half of the battle.

Thanks again.

James

Looks lovely, yes £9000 is at the higher end for a S2 Cab, but it does give you room for negotiation, if your in no hurry to sell I would see how it goes. Sub £10,000 for a very nice classic Porsche is becoming good value.

I think Pastry's point is bang on. The cheap Boxster competition is out there and takes away the larger 'casual' market of people who might just want a cheap convertible with a Porsche badge on it. But it does not affect the smaller market of people who actually know they want a 944 or 968 cab, and wouldn't consider a Boxster. That is a smallish market so patience is required, but given that the supply of good cabs is diminishing I think that if you can be patient you have a good chance of getting a good price. The buyer will emerge eventually.

Thanks Edd, very kind.

It really is a nice car, which I'll be sad to see the back of [:(] - all of our cars are nice though to be fair - much more so than a Boxster, for example. How many people 'double take' at a Boxster...???...not many! Whereas so many people have to look twice at a 944, 968, 928... beautiful 'proper' cars!

I must be honest, part of the reason for putting it on initially at £8995 was just so I could get the advert up, without the risk of drastically underselling it at this stage (its very busy at the moment, and I'm aware that at least when the ads are in place, making little tweaks here and there are much easier).

My ultimate aim is to let the masses decide via the medium of an eBay auction, which I'll probably set up next week, when I know I'll be around on the following weekends (auctions can only last 10 days for cars I think, so it would be a bit school boy of me if I was unable to meet people who may want to see it first) [:)]

Given the general feeling is that £8995 is a bit high, do you think we might be better to set fixed listings at something like £7995 instead? Just to acknowledge what we're all saying and to try and make it a bit more inviting for people to come forward...?

Cheers,

James

Cheers Lowtimer,

I'll try to hold my ground a bit - see if another 'me' turns up [:)] Someone who couldn't possibly consider a Boxster over a 944/968.

Do you think there may be any merit in the £7995 alteration though, in light of everything else thats out there on the market?

Thanks,

James

Myself, I would leave it at the price it's on at for a few weeks. Then if you want to, bring it down a bit.

But I am not an expert at selling cars.

Wow, much as I like to see them price appropriately, the ones on Ebay tend to be up for between three and five grand, I doubt they will be anywhere as nice as yours, I paid 4250 for mine 18 months ago, it had a lot spent on it, I have improved it since then but I am not valuing it anything above what I paid for it, even with the belts just done, leather re-furbed and the host of other bits done, however I think I may be under valuing it, depends who wants one, there are a couple of very tidy ones with classic dealers at around what you are asking but they have lower miles. Not sure how much a Boxster is competition, not saying they arent great but they arent a classic yet and there are thousands of them, there are less than 400 Cabs of any type left.

Would be pleased to see yours go for strong money, looks a very good one with all the right stuff done, which compared to a four grand Ebay one that may end up costing that once all the issues are sorted.

Nice looking Cab, it will sell but not overnight at that price - but do you need to sell it overnight? cars are always worth what someone is willing to pay for the right car.

I wouldn't let it go cheap just to offload it and personally wouldn't bother with eBay unless it went on as a classified, why pitch it in with all the crap?

If you have some movement in the price then put it up for that, and let's face it - £7999 is always going to be better than £8999 for the buyer!!

Boxsters cant fit kids.
If its a good one its probably worth it.
The cheap ones tend to be dogs
There is a blue one on ebay that was up for £6k last year, still on there for £4k. That would suggest, either the market isnt there,or its not as good as its picture
