My s2 just let me down, just waiting for recovery , breakdown guy confirmed my diagnosis of electtical problem, no volts at coil, weirdly after he tlld me I would
Have to wait for the truck a helpful Porsche specialist happened by (like yhey do) john from unit 11 asked me if itried a dme relay which I had, suggested crank sensors or dme computer,

Any suggestions of stuff to try, no spark, can smell fuel when its cranked from exhaust.

Cheers

This may sound a bit odd but stay with me on this one.
Did you unlock the car with a different door than normal.
My Factory fit alarm and aftermarket immobilizer wont start the car if I unlock the passenger door. The car will crank and the fuel pump will run but no spark. Also the immobilizer will switch off with its little fob thing.
I have to lock the passenger door and then unlock the drivers door then the car will start no problem at all.
I'm not sure why this happens and it is on my list of things to fix but it only bothers me when I forget.
Also by unlocking the either door the central locking unlocks both doors as normal. Its just that unless you put the key in the door the little micro-switch on the door lock is not operated.

Weird eh ?

but worth a go as if one car does it another is sure to have the same fault.

Could this cause my issues, and potentially the hot start issue, its the cam position sensor ?

One way or another it needs changing I guess,

Chipped the brittle plastic off the sensor to reveal the wires, think the black one had frayed so took a bit of the insulation back and tried to plug it into the pin which seemed to work, crimped on with some pliers but it didn't work, so looks like I need a new one and it probably won't cure it.

With the cam/hall sensor unplugged, would the engine still run ?

Have had conflicting reports on that, one one forum it said it runs but doesnt advance the ignition correctly ?

Well, just short of £500 later it is running again, the headline problem was the Ignition amplifier (like Bighead said) but the chap removed a long defunct, and badly installed 90's alarm, a new DME relay (Solid state so should last better).

Am really hoping it has cured the hot start issue, fpr didnt, injectors didnt etc etc and it was the ignition that failed so I think the part was failing gradually and eventually shot its last in the Aldi car park in Knutsford.

I decided I couldnt just keep replacing bits without proper diagnosis, so a £70 part (new), cheaper used has cost me £469.20, still the old manky alarm is gone so it may help keep the battery topped up.

So, there is a nicely fettled cab available for sale if anyone is interested.
