This crank scraper, I am guessing as I have never seen one, but is it a device to deflect excess oil off the spinning crank?

So has a very fine clearance when installed and is from some non-metallic material?

Hi George

Yes it scrapes excess oil ( approx 7lb) off of the crank, it also helps stop oil foaming which can destroy engines and for the 944 in particular it helps overcome the design flaw that leads to No.2 con-rod bearing failing.

There are two types supplied by I-J, steel or Teflon, the steel type is a close match to the crank profile but may need a little filing of excess material for clearance. The Teflon type is fitted as is and the crank itself when turning cuts it's own profile. I went for the steel option as I prefer it and it's less than half the price.

There is another option for both types and that's a profile for knife edge cranks.

Interesting - but I guess it explains why they knife edge the cranks in the first place - apart from the weight factor.

No sense of humour failure at all. The posting did lead to a complaint about it however. Moderation on here is with a very light touch and 99.99 % of posts are fine as everyone on here tends to self regulate.

There are clear forum rules including about language and the content of posts. Any form of moderation might seem OTT to some but it does keep the forum a pleasant and relaxed placed to be without the excesses that can be found elsewhere.

I can sadly only say that I-J are a bunch of fu**ers. I have through Chris White been waiting for my scraper the past 2½ month :-(
I m in no hurry as I`m waiting for other thing as well but sadly they are badly known for very bad service and not least of lying all the time as regards their shipments. I have checked the market thoroughly because of their bad delivery reputation and unfortunately have found no other manufacturers - although I did find a few previous I-J dealers that had kicked them out ass they did'nt want them to pester there own delivery reputation !

At this moment in time I am tracking the USPS parcel which admittedly seems to be on a slow boat to china as its still in Miami... Lol
If this package fails to arrive or make any more progress by next weekend I'll claim my money back ( this will be an instant process according to my visa account) and then look into making one for myself. After all it's not rocket science , I'll need a new blade on my bandsaw first...

It is strange though that I receive this update today after nothing since the 19th , only thing that's changed is I sent USPS a stinking reply to their customer survey last night...

That's good news, sorry to say no more news on mine, still listed as in UK somewhere..lol
On a good note the con-rods that I dropped in to Serdi's on Monday were ready yesterday morning and for less than I thought too.
Hope to be able to get over to Uxbridge before the weekend to pick them up...

Today's update: As of 1:11am this morning my parcel cleared customs, that means it's been clearing customs for 6 days....6 days??... Geeze I wonder what could possibly take so long to warrant that. All previous parcels from the US have taken 1 perhaps 2 days at the most to clear customs, I can only guess that this is to do with USPS just storing it somewhere rather than our customs procedures taking longer than normal. It will be interesting to see how long it now takes to reach my address, I won't be using USPS again that's for sure........lol

another interesting piece of info, if you remember I was given two label ID numbers, the first number is the one that is now sitting in UK customs, the second ID which I-J sent me a picture off as proof that my parcel had actually left him had been sitting in Miami since the 20th. It's just be updated, it's in New Zealand...lol, so another lie, btw it cleared NZ customs in 54 minutes...double lol

todays news, below are the update statuses given to date, I am now officially advising people to never use USPS... what a joke, so I'm now awaiting contact to inform me that import duties need paying, I know import duties will need paying for christ's sake, I've never had this before, either the item is delivered and I get invoiced later or on one occasion over ten years ago the postman turned up at my door needing a cheque to clear the import charges. So this is something new, since it took 6 days alone to clear customs I wonder how long it will take to be notified that charges need paying, as a minimum I'd have expected a phone call early this morning as they do have my contact number, it was given to I-J for USPS. Once I get the pistons back in my block I'm ready for this scraper, hope it gets here this week as next week I plan to go away for a few days.

Some good news at last, now that UK mail services have taken over I received a letter this morning from ParcelForce giving me import charges details and if I pay them today the parcel will be with me tomorrow. Needless to say I have just paid the £23.55 import and admin charges and now excitedly await my crank scraper tomorrow.
