I have noticed a couple of times over xmas that when I give the car full throttle up a steep hill in second I get a loud banging from rear middle at back.Thought could be exhaust but that is fine.Only happens over 4000rpm and if I change up - lowering revs , it dies away but give full throtlle again and it will come back at high revs.
On the flat or downhill it is ok.
Is it the mounting starting to come apart ? and if so what replacement would you recommend.

Likely to be a gearbox mounting-replace with OE item--in fact both of them.
Didn't realise there where two , just know the block type one to the g/bow crossmember , where is the other one.
Cheers

Yes, the crossmember and the transmission mountings were altered on the series two cars (1986MY>). It isnt cheap Nick, but a slightly less NVH-friendly solid mount is available for under £40.

where are the solid mounts available from ? and what difference would it make.
Thanks for your help.

You don't want a solid mount for a road car I would think as all the vibration from the drivetrain will go through the mount. The new OEM POrsche mount was about £150 but they just had the annual price increase.

Porscheshop did me an excellent price on a pair of mounts for my early 944, and part was OEM, so worth a try.......

Early mounts are cheap. Pork Chop best avoided.

Ie been told that they (solid mounts) dont add an excessive amount of NVH, but that might be too much for most people. Ive looked on eBay.com and I cant see anyone else offering this mounts, so contacting Simon might be the only cheap alternative, other than welding it up (which EMC do to save the cost).
