Ipod on MOST systems

Very interesting, have been holding off buying an ipod as I had heard the sound quality using a transmitter was lousy.

If anyone gets any info on price, perhaps they could post it.
 
Emailed the Dension UK distributors and asked what the price will be. Also asked if they would discount a bulk 'club' order. We will have to wait and see what they say.

I use a transmitter in my 997 and when on the move the sound quality is fine. Admittedly if crawling along or stationary there is a tiny background interference and between tracks if in "shuffle" mode you get static hiss, but for £39.95 I am well pleased with it.
 
OK, I have received a response to my email from Progressive Consumer Electronics Ltd, the Dension distributor in the UK regarding the IceLink Gateway 500 which will work with MOST.

The unit will be ready at the end of May and will retail for £249.99. They are willing to do a discount for a bulk order but make no mention how mauch and for how many.

Is this something someone in officialdome at PCGB should do or will one of us organise it?

Looks like it will involve a bit of effort to install this system, I would be interested to know how difficult it is.

Also, given comments elsewhere about effect on warranty of installing Tracker rather than Porsches equivalent system, does anyone have a view on whether Porsche will argue that this affects warranty on the electrical system?
 
The distributor also said they can fit the Ice link (discounted again if there was enough intrest in a baulk order).

I have Tracker fitted to my C4 and I have had the OPC warranty inspection when I wanted to take out the extended warranty on it due to it elapsing and I had no problems whatsoever.
 
I would also be interested in a bulk purchase deal, assuming it really does works.

If you decide to organise a bulk purchase, it might be a good idea to post this on some of the other relevant forums as well, such as Boxster, Cayman, 997, Turbo and possibly even GT3.

Just some food for thought - came across this transmitter for any MP3/laptop/PSP or anything with a headphone socket apparently.

Seems good value and is smaller than the original i-trip.
I have ordered one, so I'll let you know if it's any good.
I have heard an ipod broadcast via a transmitter and I thought the sound quality was pretty good actually.

Hi all

Just got my transmitter from the mail order folk, and overall it's a doddle to use, very compact and the radio hooks up to it straight away when turned on. It even comes with a car charger to save the battery.

Ratings:

* Ease of use - 9/10
*Sound quality - 6/10 - certainly degrades the quality a bit, and some background static, but not bad, esp for the money.
*Build quality - 7/10 - unit itself is fine, but the link cable from the unit to the MP3 player is not surpressed enough - if you tap the cable, it transmits it as a 'thump'!
Overall - 6/10 IMHO.

Good if you're not too bothered about absolute clarity, and a cinch to use. Fits in your pocket when finished, or is easily hidden from view.
Hi-fi buffs would not be impressed, but not bad at all really, for the money.[8D]
