IPD Plenum 987.1 Boxster S 3.2 05' - 06' with 74mm Throttle Body upgrade

I’ve started doing this on my 3.2 986s. So far I’ve added a 996 plenum and 74mm TB. I used aluminium tubing and silicone bends to join the TB to the existing air box. I’ve desnorkled and fitted a Pipercross high flow air filter. Total cost sub £200 at the moment. currently I’m considering exhaust options and then remap. I’m not that interested in the numbers, it is what it is. What I can say is that there is definitely more purpose across the rev range already, it picks up much quicker and revs more freely up the gears.

Good to know. It seems modern ECUs will detect the increased airflow and compensate accordingly anyway which is another reason I'm wary of letting a bloke and his laptop loose on it.

I'd like a bit more power lower down the rev range. It really doesn't get going till you're at 5000 rpm on my 3.4.

Yes a modern ECUs will adjust to a degree, like CarlM58 I’m not so interested in the numbers. Like he says it is what it is, if I get the chance to put it on a dyno I will but bum on seat feel it’s a quicker car and like CarlM58 picks up quicker across the Rev range even more so at the top.

interestering to see you did it so cheaply using the 996 parts so a thumbs up for that!

The TB was second hand and came with a 987 / Cayman 3.4 plenum which I’ll sell on eventually as it’s no use for a 986 unfortunately. I searched high and low for a used 996 plenum but couldn’t find one. In the end I asked at my OPC and was surprised that a new one was only £30ish and it came with a seal so happy days!

Anyone recommend a place to get the plenum and throttle body from other than the (to remain unnamed) Porsche specialist based in Brentwood? I'm not giving them money after a bad job they did, but annoyingly they are much cheaper.

If your talking about "D911" then they are the only official UK Supplier of the IPD Plenum, so unless you buy from IPD Directly and then pay the import charges there may not be many other options. The Throttle Body is just a standard bosch part so you would be able to get from Porsche or a local independent maybe able to help you

Agency Power also do a Plenum & Throttle Body Kit that you can buy through PorscheShop, that has a 78mm Throttle Body instead of 82mm

Frustrating, as they are the cheapest way of getting it by some margin. The wifes in the states soon. Maybe I'll get her to pick one up!
