Intermittent wiper adjustment is not working

The one thing that doesn't work on my car is the intermittent wiper delay adjustment - the wiper will work at the intermittent setting, but the delay adjustment dial has no effect; the pause is stuck on 'quite long' I recently replaced the relay with this one from eBay https://ebay.us/m/6KFbmM I measured my adjustment dial's resistance, which ranges from 30K ohm to 260K ohm which matches a spare I have. Anything else I should try?

Ideally, meet up with another member whose intermittent wiper delay adjustment is working and try their relay in your car to see if it is the relay.

Had a similar issue where original relay did fail and got a replacement and still didn't work, then was able to try the relay from another car where I could see it working and that relay worked and turned out my replacement was the problem.

To buy the good relay, I used a part comparison site where you enter the Porsche part number and they tell you the OEM manufacturer(s) and corresponding part numbers for both OEM branded part and other manufacturers who use the same part (e.g VW 789654).

Then I searched online using the OEM manufacturer name and their part number (e.g. Bosch 123456 or Hella 456789) and bought the OEM brand relay from one of the many online suppliers.

To add - most suppliers do not hold stock and simply order from the manufacturers when you buy online and then the manufacturer sends the part directly to you or to the supplier you purchased from who then ships it to you.

I used Autopartoo, Kaka and Yoyo websites and looks like they're now restricted access.

Thinking our 993 uses same wash wipe relay as 944 and will have a look at our relay and get back to you over the weekend.

Our 993 intermittent wiper relay is an SWF IGE 601.565 and looks like these were standard for many European 80's and 90's cars.

Also, our relay has 7 pins (photo attached) whereas your eBay relay has 6 pins, so wondering if the 7th pin is for use with a rotary / variable delay function. Do you still have your original relay to compare with?

Looks like SWF has been bought out by a bigger automotive group and online searches come up with suggested equivalents: AIC 50700, BOSCH 0 986 335 058, HELLA 5WG 003 620-091, MEYLE 100 830 0014 and VEMO V15-71-0025. However, they look like 6 pin relays.

Marc thank you very much for your thorough and detailed investigations! Much appreciated, I think you have nailed it, it must be the 7th pin; the overwhelming majority of aftermarket relays only have 6, when they are listed as intermittent (which is true, but stuck on the slowest setting). I might have to bite the bullet and get one from a Porsche reseller. Thanks again

Thinking, ask your local OPC how much a new one is with PCGB 10% discount and then compare with a used one that's guaranteed working (or your money back) from sellers such as Douglas Valley.

Search for SWF IGE 601.565 as used by several European manufacturers and may be able to get one from a local breaker which you can try there. Got the neighbours headlight washer relay from our local Fiat breaker as same part as used by Porsche.

Remember - ask for additional discount / better price - it often works (if you don't ask you won't get)

thanks Marc - it appears I couldn't see the wood for the trees until I went back to ebay armed with your insight, as there are actually quite a few 7 pins listed on ebay - bought one for £25 - I am hopeful this will be the end of this saga :)

Nice one, let us know if that solves it and post a link to your eBay 7-pin relay to help others.

My delay adjuster now works perfectly; my car came with a 6 pin relay so I never knew about the 7th pin until Marc pointed it out - and as a bonus I notice that the wash/wipe now does three wipes rather than just a single one, which feels more grown up :)
