I have the Augment upgrade, it's exactly the same as the Lindsey and other Stage 1 intercooler's out there. As you know I did many changes in the last round of mods, the intercooler being one of them but I'm sure it plays a good part in the power gain. As it happens my intercooler was deemed unusable by Tom when sent to him for the conversion to stage 1, this due to the bad Piper ram air intake system that gave way to the amount of induction available sucking the bonded foam filter out of the chamber into the engine knackering the turbo.. one of those 'trials and tribulations' of modified cars moments I've mentioned recently...

I've seen pictures of high power 968 turbo engines that use 944 turbo intercoolers with standard end tanks. It seems the important thing is the ducting into and out of the intercooler. If you didn't want a duct in the bonnet I'd investigate a temp triggered water spray for the intercooler.

That IT is just ambient Pete, he didn't measure my IT directly and I wasn't logging during the run (my mistake), I suspect my IT was more like 45-60degC. Normal running it's about 30degC. I am currently using an MBC but have plans to replace with a solenoid...PSH said:Looking at your graph Phil I don't think that your power drop is due to the intercooler, your IT is 18 which isn't bad, I think mine was around that at 368bhp ... are you by chance using a manual boost controller?...these do allow more drop off once max power has been reached whereas a solenoid controlled EBC will hold max power. Having said that I'm not totally convinced that this is the only cause as my 368 was when using an MBC...it's probably due more to the smaller turbo you currently have fitted..

I'm probably going to get the Augment (tom) mod done. I've noticed you can pick up a new intercooler on ebay for £159 at the moment (standard) and was thinking of getting one of them to have modified, just in case I wanted to return to normal for any reason (or if mine was beyond working on). Seems like a bargain price for an intercooler when you look at the cost of the modification alone!
I'm also interested to see if my inlet temps go down with a new 'stock' intercooler. 30 years of oily air through an intercooler is bound to have a negative impact...
Out of interest, is the augment mod done on both sides of the intercooler or just the one?

Just the one side Tom, not sure what's involved with Stage 2 as I never looked into it, the standard intercooler did very well before I lost the air filter in it.... I had to get a replacement off ebay due to mine being toast, if you do the same be sure to get one that's been pressure tested, this is the first thing that Tom does to check it's suitability.
Here's mine in the car.....

They are tested and compared with standard , I can't remember the figures but there is a marked difference in performance... LR might give test details on their site, they are all much the same mod.blade7 said:Is there any proof that modifying one end tank makes a difference ? I don't think the Porsche engineers were mugs.

I've never seen an independent like for like test Pete. I'll dig out my old 87 Cosworth intercooler and check the end tanks on that. It would cost me about £25 to modify a 944T intercooler.PSH said:They are tested and compared with standard , I can't remember the figures but there is a marked difference in performance... Swapped out the intercooler for the cheap Ebay purchase £159shipped and did the same drive. temps were a consistent 22degc dropping to a low of 21 and on boost maxed at 25degC but dropped back within about 10seconds to 22degC once off boost, so I recon that's a very good result, about a 10degC improvement. Now to look at modifying it...
