Hi, just a few questions;
1) Is there a register of parts on here that after interchangeable with say VW like the jack for example and thus avoiding( Porsche Tax).
2) My car is running on 175x65x15 tyres. Is it better to run on the original sizes?
3) Are the any 356's that have replaced the carbs with an injection system.
Many thanks.

David, why do you want to change the 356B to fuel injection?
Have a look on the 356 Registry Forum
There are members comments there. their comments say that it is very expensive to do and most of the people that tried it say that it does not look 'right'. Why do you need to change from the Carburettors?

Regarding the 175x15 tyres, Your speedo will be fast, as the tyre diameter may be smaller than standard 165x15 x70% profile tyres. Otherwise they are OK and might give better grip. I think the main thing about using that size or something similar is that there are a larger number of tyres available and the price may be lower than the rareish 156x15 originals

Thanks for the responses as always.
I was looking at injection systems to save having to adjust the cards regularly so as to keep the engine running efficiently plus its a more economical system and gives a modicum of increase in power.

Porsche Tax is the premium you pay for the name as with any top end manufacturer.

Regards
David

Hi 'TWOcan'

Re: 1 - There are a few swap outs, but beware, all is not as simple as it would seem. To use your example of the Jack, the VW version comes without the rubber bump stop, so is not quite the same. It depends if you really want to use it, or it's just for show. I'd never contemplate using a Jack without the stop.
Re: 2 - Many do run tyres of alternate sizes, though 175/65 is not one I recognise for a 356, 185/70 is the most common 15" upsize or on our outlaw 195/65 though these are mounted on ex-944 space saver 15" ET30 and not the standard 15x5.5 "ET42. The best resource for UK tyres is Michael at https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/porsche/356.html. Again, it depends on what you want to do with your car plus there are some other factors that come into the plan, so some are not a direct swap.
Re: 3 - If you are running the standard 4 pot engine, the carbs are plenty good enough for the car. Some of the issues around starting can be solved with a 12V upgrade, electronic points and a prime pump for the fuel. Other than that, I wouldn't swap out the carbs.

The 356 registry is a great resource when you have worked out the quirks, don't be put off asking a 'stupid question' and getting a 'haven't you tried search' it is an old school resource for an old car, I'll leave it at that. It has saved me a lot of money several times for simple things.

If you are new to the 356 enjoy the car, the best advice I can give is use it year around; they hate sitting around.
