I have just put my deposit on a Boxster for delivery in March (I hope!). I am currently with Direct Line, but, having read the issues surrounding the installation of a tracker, I would prefer to be insured without fitting a tracker.

Does anyone have any insurance companies they can recommend which dont require a tracker? Thanks if anyone can give me any info.

Of course I will be joining PCGB soon

Like with all insurance companies, it depends who you are and where you live as to which would be right for you.

Thanks Tony. Yes it does depend on location and so on, but I guess I just wanted to know some insurance companies that dont require tracker so I can check out how much it would be both with and without so I can make an informed decision. I appreciate your advice!

Every year I've been asked if I have one by several insurers but none have insisted.

I'm with Norwich Union who didn't require a tracker. REMEMBER!! - some companies will only insure your car to it's value WITHOUT optional extras so if you had a total loss you'd only get the basic price back. Additionally, some companies charge an extra premium for the extras but still don't cover their value!! NU do insure the full "with extras" value of the car.

I've insured with Norwich Union for fifteen years (two Boxsters, MGF and several BMWs) and no other insurer has ever quoted better. I've never been asked for Tracker and all my extras are covered. Current premium (987) is £600 including NCB and uninsured losses protection for two drivers. My broker tells me that you usually get a better deal if you stay with one company, and this has worked for me.

Companies I've tried in recent years ( NU, Axa) have given average 1st year quotes and then have the audacity to seriously hike the premiums up for the following year. I genrerally have to move insurers every year to get a reasonable deal - the usual excuse is they've reevaluated my post code risk.
I'm currently with RAC, who select from about 20 underwriters, only 3 of which would cover me parked in the street, and without a tracker. They also cover cost of all optional extras. Make sure you double-check this with whoever you go with - most of the cut-price insurers don't.

I Know Porsche insurance definately do not require a tracker for a Boxster....whether they give a competitive quote or not is another matter, youll have to give them a try.

My quote comes out at £822 for this next year with no requirement for Tracker, PCGB track days, unlimited milage, Protected No Claims, etc.

Atm RAC is the cheapest. NU is just 100quid more. Quite a few insurance companies dont insure a car over 50k which is really irritating.

A little tip for those of you insured with Norwich Union Direct. My renewal came up last November, showing just a slight increase over the previous annual premium. I shopped around using confused.com and found that the best quote was over £100 cheaper - insured with - lo and behold - Norwich Union. I phoned up NU to query why a third party could offer lower premiums than dealing direct. They had no answer but were able to honour the cheaper quote (using the quote reference number from confused.com). Luverly. Still smarting at their audacity though - most insurers rely on our apathy for not shopping around at renewal time.

Just renewed insurance on 987 with Norwich Union Direct at a cost of £414.99 which includes £21 for foreign use, no tracker £270 excess - two drivers. My wife insures her mini cooper s also with NUD at a cost of £207. Our friend who lives in another part of town was quoted more - depends on postcode.

Flux (Equity Red Star).No Tracker required
