Peter I thought we might have an insurance thread in 991 section. Of course there is cross over to 997 where there is plenty of history. Perhaps someone tech savvy could add a link.
Anyway.
A recent change of vehicle at a time when insurances on some of the other cars were also close to renewal resulted in a brief investigation of the market for car insurance offers generally.
Over the years the question "How many other vehicles in the household" has sent various brokers scurrying round to try to offer a multi car package. And in the past the answer in my case has always been "No Thanks" because the sum total of the premiums of individual policies has been less than a multl car policy; sometimes significantly so. Also some of the multi car policies have terms not to my liking about repair and such like. And it's not too surprising nothing has appealed when in reality there is quite a difference in character and insurance needs as between of some the cars I have to insure.
So when I rang Lockton to enquire about this recent change of vehicle on the single car policy I have with them, it was with little enthusiasm that I gave them details of "Other vehicles", particularly as their quote on the 991 turbo S in March last year had been spectacularly out by a factor of 3 times more than AON.
Therefore I was quite taken aback when their multi car quote came back at less than the sum of the existing parts. And this was for full cover on all cars, unlimited mileage, repairer of my choice, breakdown, Pan European cover including breakdown, agreed value, salvage retention, legal etc and PCGB track days on all Porsches. What is more I can add or substitute new vehicles with no change to the premium for that year.
Each car continues to clock up its own NCB within the policy so a claim on one does not affect the others. That having been said the multi car premium is not based on NCB so this would only become relevant if I were to revert to individual policies.
What has also worked for me is that insurance on those existing cars not currently up for renewal in the near future will be allowed to run to expiry then a small pro rata adjustment made to bring them in line with this multi car policy.
To give some idea of actual figures, if I take the total Lockton premium including IPT and Fee and divide by the number of cars insured the figure per car is £450, which I don't think is too bad.
Now I'm not suggesting it will work for everyone but from my discussions with Lockton about this insurance I get the impression they are really trying to improve their offer on Porsches.
I wouldn't have said this last March but now I think they may be worth a call when insurance renewal time comes round.
