I'm currently doing the dreaded ring around for insurance quotes for the first time in my life. Is there an easy way?
Perhaps some of you guys can give me an idea what I should expect to pay and if you have any recommendations.
For someone who does around 1000 miles pa if I'm lucky, only uses it in the dry and doesn't let the wife drive it, is getting some ridiculous quotes.

I don't think I'm a risk anyway.[8|]

just renewed C4 Cab (2001) for self and wife, fully comp, no mileage limit, business use, track day cover, protected NCD, windscreen cover etc for £890 - arranged though Performance Marque (see ad in PP)

my 1989 3.2 cost me £420 Mileage restricted to 5000 on a full policy from Adrian Flux and my wifes 1990 C2 cost me £416 again 5000 miles on a Classic policy from Aon both in PP if thats any help

Try AON Lee. Similar costs/numbers to Graham + track day cover for 0.01% per day + tax of the value of the car. Excess goes up to 10% of the value of the car.

Ringing round is nearly always the best way in my experience. I paid £690 last year for my RS with a 6K mileage limit, so you should reasonably expect lower as you are a little older than me (he he). Then again it's amazing what the insurers will load for, Job, House location etc. Value may also make a huge difference cars over £30k will no doubt be loaded more heavily! Mine is insured for £27k I think!

Thanks Graham
I have just tried these guys and Adrian Flux wants a staggering £1500 for limited miles of 1500, must have a Cat 1 alarm and AON want £1037.

I think I'll sell it and buy a mini 1000, maybe a Mayfair, depends on the insurance hike.

Hi Laurence.

I may be older but far more handsom.

Who is your car insured with and did you need to fit any security?

Sorry Lee that I was of no help but I`am abit on the old side you see and that helps
I must admit that I do all the rounds of all the insurance companys each year that I can internet and phone just to get the best deal, have so far cut the cost of my insurance each year for the past 4 years hope to keep this up soon thay will pay me to drive the car .I live in hope[:D]Pigs may fly one day.
I think you will find you need a cat 1 alarm on you type of car with all the insurance companys.

Try Jardine Faber next best for me

Ohh you can be so bitchy Lee.[:D] I am with Performance Marque. Have five years NCB garaged and cat 1 alarm/immobiliser 6K miles limit and no track day cover (simply could not get it with a policy under 1k). Oddly from memory reducing the limit lower does not attract that bigger difference in discount. What on earth are you telling them!

I am picking up a 944T on Sat and i got quoted £626 from Lancaster, includes breakdown cover, legal cover, agreed value, 6k miles p/a with 5years NCB. This includes my wife to drive too. I am in a major city location so i thought it was a pretty good deal.

Hope you find a better quote, i was getting £1500+ form some. Tesco was the next best at just under a grand, but it was not a classic policy.

If it's a second car do try Aon on their collectors car policy £312 for my carrera w/7 pts and trackdays @ £25

Second car, age 32, value £38,000, £800 for 5000 miles pa with Performance Marque. They will mirror the no claims used on the first car.

Performance Marques wont insure me because they dont consider my18 blemish free years on company insurance having daily drivers such as Ferrari 360 s and 550 s and 500 BHP Mercs as any kind of experience worthy of anything. Amazing!

Norwich Union direct wont insure me because the car is an import and over 10 Years old, but if it was younger than 10 years old it would be ok, Whats all that about?

See you soon

take care

A 1000 dry miles a year if I'm lucky
Garaged at my home
Security posts outside garage door
Tracker fitted
Blemish free history with company insurers
No points on licence

Why dont insurance companies look at each individual case?

I will keep you posted. ( look out for an RS in the classifieds)

Another benefit (not) of PCGB membership is that people believe that the 'specialist' insurance companies are doing you a favour as a Club member.

I found that ringing round the specialists brought a 'best' of £425 for limited milage for an '89 911 with more alarms than enough. A call to my previous company Liverpool Victoria elicited a permium of £233 (£246 this year) with no limit to mileage, my partner included and lower excesses than any of the specialist ones.

Try it and be quoted even more happy!

Got my car insured for £250, fully comp, 3000 miles, no additional security, me and hubby to drive, agreed value £18000 and full european breakdown. this was through Classic line, page 41 in this months PP.

I tried everyone else in PP and the prices were upto £1200!

The only way to get the best price is to bite the bullet and get on the phone, every case is different and insurers choose to load or discount accordingly.....

Why am I chatting on about work, not due back until Monday.[]

Good luck in your search Lee.

Trying to work out why insurers quote the way they do is 3rd only to
1 The meaning of Life
2 understanding the way women think

Nicola I'd give you a great big kiss if you weren't already married. I have just got off the phone to Classic Line and they have delighted me by quoting £390 and as you stated, no additional security. Just as I was going to give up and sell up.

Thanks again
