Insurance write offs?

Guest

New member
I have been looking for a 993 L/M reg and have found one for sale that has been written off by an insurance company and the damage repaired. The price reflects this, £5k less that what appears to be market value, but I am concerned about resale and if I am buying into trouble.

Any advice would be appreciated

Any idea what category write off it is? I've got a part share in something that was a Cat D writeoff and the value has not been too badly impacted, but that's probably down to full specialist rebuild/restoration and the fact that its a '64 car in the first place.

As long as the work's been done properly it shouldn't be a problem in theory but to be honest the insurance thing is almost certainly going to be an issue if you sell it. As a private buyer I'd keep looking and spend the extra £5k (since it doesn't go very far in the garage if anything's wrong & there's quite a lot of choice) and you can imagine what line a dealer would spin.

Went to a Universal salvage auction at Sandwich the other week and there was a Cat D Subaru with the back bumper pushed in as far as the back window. They know that people will pay a lot more for a cat d write off as it does not need to go for a ministry inspection. This car needed a reshell. Try to have a good look at the car bearing in mind the price of Porsche spares and what you need to pay for anyone to work on it for you.
Also think about how long you intend to keep the car the longer you keep it the less impact the write off status will have on its value.
