Injector Cleaner Additive Experience.

I recently picked up a rather cheap cab with a few issues that I have been working through.

One of the problems was warm tick over was hunting so when I filled up the other day I thought
I would risk a bottle of injector cleaner at the same time.

After quarter of a tank the hunting problem seems to be fixed and I have also noticed a considerable
power increase across the whole range but particularly at the lower end.

Also before the temperature gauge was always just below the first mark but now its bang in the middle.

Could a £5 bottle of STP have sorted all of this or is it likely to be a coincidence?

Any thoughts

Ant

The idlng and low-end throttle response are things it could affect. The temperature thing is a coincidence.

Yes, injector cleaner can make a huge difference - I notice it in MPG improvement over several tankfulls (I keep good records over 30k miles a year) after using it... or have done - if the car is up together and injectors are good it won't make any difference. I have certainly used it on rough idling cars and seen reward... in fact it was significant in getting on old 924Turbo running again. I have a feeling it had an effect on the metering head on that as well as the injectors.

Do not take any notice of the increase in power immediately after adding it though - The main ingredient is toluene - which is an octane booster.

Yep maybe the power is coming from the extra octanes I will have to wait till I have emptied the tank to see if it stays.

The engine is pretty smooth anyway so can't really comment on vibration and it is a cab so has a little natural wobble.

Even though the hunting seems to have stopped the idle does have a tiny bit of roughness still but I am probably being picky.

Think the car hasn't been driven hard in the past few years and a few sessions with my heavy size 10's may have a little to do with the change also.

The full Italian tune up method is always helpful with a car that has not been driven very much.

Enjoy your new toy and congrats on the purchase. Did I hear someone say

PICS PLEASE [:D]

Injector cleaner is good and worthwhile.

I also noticed a definate improvement in smoothness and driveability using Shell Nitro, even over other RON 98 fuels.

But would agree with Paul , they do respond to a bit of Latin.......:)

Sorry bit slow with the pic.....

I used the stuff once to try and get the exhaust emissions down after it had failed an MOT. I think I used four doses in a tank (only meant to use one) and the emissions did indeed drop but I did various other things too (new FPR, cleaned the AFM tracks etc) so I don't know how much effect it had on it's own. I'd suggest that some good-quality fuel and an Italian tune-up are probably equally as helpful, as has been said.

That's a pretty car Ant. What's the colour? I do like the way the wheels are done.

Thanks Oli,

It's Velvet Red or as my wife calls it, Eighties hookers nail varnish.

I am still 50/50 with the wheels, the previous owner did them ,some days I like the look and to be honest I get more comments about the wheels than the car!

I am on my second tank of fuel after the injector cleaner and the car definitely still has more poke but think there will be a lot more to do to get it perfect.

My experience with my S2 is that the best thing to do to them is keep the ignition system in good order, run them on 98-ron fuel and drive them hard and often. They don't need thrashing, but they do need to be warmed up regularly and taken above 4k RPM on a regular basis.

The wheels look like a charcoal grey centre with a silver rim - non? I wonder what that effect would look like on a Baltic Blue car .... [;)]

Oli.

Think it would suit Baltic blue better than it does velvet red.

If you are ever in the midlands you can stick one on yours to see.

Thanks! I left the Midlands about 20 years ago (I was a Brummie for a long time) but don't go back that often now. Thanks for the offer tho'!

Mike, I am not brave enough to own more than 1!

Velvet red is a great colour when its polished, but seems to get dirty very quickly.....

Also changes a lot in different light.

Owned 2 for a while a few years ago - no problem!

Like the colour - try white or black for getting dirty :) ( had Black Lancia and 2 white 944s)

Hopefully the changing colour will disguise the faded bits :)

Should be getting it Thursday

Zermatt silver is the colour of choice for avoiding cleaning it! Twice a year suffices and needless to say it's also the fastest colour!
