IMS recommendation

Hi Gordy

Thanks for confirming. I am a Porsche novice so any help with a Gen 1 Cayman 3.4S is much appreciated. The car has covered less than 30k.

Ive read several articles that recommend the bearing seal is removed to aid lubrication of the IMS bearing. Is this something I should consider.

Regards

Kevin

You will be fine regarding the IMS. All Caymans have the final fix IMS bearing that is basically impossible to break, so I wouldn’t do anything to yours.

That isn’t to say that the Cayman doesn’t have minor issues. D-chunking and bore scoping can occur, the RMS can leak, the con rod bolts can snap if you insist on visiting the redline on a regular basis and the engine will starve itself of oil if you explore the outer limits of the car’s lateral G capabilities.

But that’s not to say that these things are likely. Caymans are very well sorted and if they haven’t been driven hard should be reliable.
