Imposter - heater bypass problem - URGENT

The imposter has not had much use - the brand spanking new Recaro's with big fat beautiful Southbound leather covers and cushions are just too high and narrow for me...so sourcing some pole positions.

However when the car was built it had a heater bypass system installed.

This is not really my problem - what is my problem is that the pipe which runs from the rear engine fans back along the car and into the footwell.....isn't connected to anything!!!

And its melting both the carpet glue and my leg!!!

Any ideas what I can do as both a quick fix and what I need to do permanently?

Taking it to a rolling road tomorrow to see what the engine is putting out and would like to get there without 3rd degree burns!!

Or...

I can't remember what it looks like underneath - but I guess there's a flexible pipe between the heater fans and the sill which you can temporarily disconnect for tomorrow?

Looks like I was pretty close when I suspected that there was a hole in your footwell heater hose! The only long term solution I see is to replace the hose..they're about 12 quid from an OPC + a couple of jubilee clips. Rich is on the money about disconnecting the flexible hose at the other end as a temporary solution. Just take the rear wheel off to get to it.

It would also explain my heater bypass jump not working Steve!!

Where does the pipe connect to at the other end? I'm guessing it's to the heater pipes behind the dash?

You're probably right about the bypass not working because of it. With the hose missing the HVAC system won't be able to operate the metal flapper valve in the rear wheel arch which is a key component to drawing air flow from the heat exchangers or dumping it into the wheel arch (it works by the servos creating a differential air pressure). From memory, your missing hose has a right angle so the other end it connects to will be up and then to the right as I look at your pic.

BTW when doing the temporary disconnect of the hose at the rear you'll have the problem of undoing a very rusty jubilee clip. Either end will do. But don't be tempted to just cut through the hose because they're 80 quid each!

Ok have ordered the pipe to reconnect.

These wires hanging down - are they correct as they are - just want to make sure nothing has been knocked out of place in this area. Looks like they just need tieing up?

Never managed a dyno run - they couldn't find a way to strap the rear wheels down as their straps were directly under heat shield on one side and silencer on the other [:(]

Both of those plugs on mine are connected to appropriate plugs that go to the loom that feeds the door. Presumably for the electric windows and mirrors. So if you haven't got plugs close by to plug into, they're redundant in yours and cane be tied out of the way.

I thought we had just managed to get rid of Des and his GT3. Now we have Jason and his C2

What next Melv and his C5?[]

You only know its a C2 cos i told you though[;)]

I bet 95% of people would never know[:D]. Maybe the odd dullard anal jock but few others[;)]

I just want to see how far behind an RS it is on track....[:D]

Besides the forum doesn't have a 'Rep' section[8D][8D]

As do we! My guess is not very far - if at all! Also interested to hear how the driving experience compares. Again - I bet very similar. If my memory serves me well, the money had gone on the right bits (suspension etc.)

You've already been here with that![:D][;)]

Are you actually going to turn up at trackdays Jason ? [;)]
How about Oulton 30 June MSV day , I'll be there with Mr Brookes as co-driver in the 911E as the RS is having a summer break down south....

Yeah I see you have flipped your cars homes atm??

Hoping to get on track as soon as sorted seats and track wheels out, plus ensured set up is correct. Not rushing as track days are not cheap for the unemployed![&o]

The 73RSR is all ready now though so hope to be out in that very soon....just need to noise test it first!!

Looked like a good day at Goodwood John[:)]

Hi friends,

I need some help for the car I am making. I am making a 964 C2 for racing, then I keep my 964RS in perfect conditions, I want to save all the weight as possible, then I delete the Air condition system, an I am thinking in the possibility of delete the heater system, but I want to keep some force ventilation to the interior of the car. I delete the rear engine ventilator, then I do not have heat in the car, but I need some wind for the front window and for me.

Any solution???

I change the front heater box with air condition for other without it, but the weight is too much and I want the car with 1.150 kg no more...

please, tell me a good solution, now I need to reinstall the gas tank and heater system is first. thanks

This business of getting replicas is popular! I figure, you dont need heat to the car, so you only need fresh air. I'd strongly consider, ripping all the porsche stuff out, and putting a race system in. A bit of tubing from the front bonnet vent, and an in-line electrical blower should do it. Or something like is on Melv's car would work. Clearly never done this myself though.

I am not making a replica, I am making a 964 for race in Spain... with some modifications, 993 RS wishbones, 993TT brakes, rear arms... The rollcage is complete welded to the chassis and new design, we reinforce all the rear part end the rear down part of the car... I change the vacuum brake system for an Hidraulic one, with different components from RS, 993 and 928... (I hope the car stop...) The engine is in delay... waiting the man who wants to make it... in Spain I don't find nobody to make it... may be an english man could be the man... Still waiting his answer... I don't know...

Any way, please, put a link for the race system of fresh air or the electrical blower, I can't find anyone here in Spain...

An idea is to install the blowers of a Porsche 3.2 and connect it with a power switch with power balance for the speed... but the principal problem is to connet the tubes to the car, may be using an old Porsche heater system...

More things... the target of this car is to beat the growing numbers of GT3 in our race track days... compete in the resistance championship and to keep my 964RS in perfect shape and far away of frights in the race tracks... with one is enought...

Sorry - I didnt mean exact replica, just a lot of people with RSs, who now have a modded 964 in the stable.
Anyway,

Something like those is what I've seen done in cars here.
