Immobiliser

Hi all.

My 92 964 has the Porsche Immobiliser installed (the one where you insert a tab into a slot on the steering collum) and as a result of me leaving the passenger window slightly open during the recent rain the controller box started making a high pitched squeel.

I located it and found it was full of water so I sprayed it with WD40 and left it to dry.

The next day she refused to turn over so I dismantelled the box itself and cleaned up the PCB but I seem to have managed to potentailly fry the chip whilst resoldering some dodgy looking contacts.

Is this likely and how the hell to I fix it?

If it's the standard UK fit immobiliser I believe it was made by Hamilton and Palmer. They are in Sevenoaks and have a web page ([size="-1"]www.hamilton-palmer.co.uk)

Guys, spoke to H-P's technical chap (a very helpful and nice guy called Jim) who effectively solved my principle problem.

I had taken a photo of the back of the immobilizer pcb and superimposed the main components and relays on to it so I could work out how it actually immobilizers the car.

After chatting with him for only a couple of mins I now know how to bypass the unit ready for the installation of a new cat 1 alarm.

The immobiliser is relatively complex and is a four "cut" unit (which equals Cat 1).

H-P do not do exact replacements but do have a three "cut" unit to replace it which comes complete with the Porsche emblem for about £85 + P&P. Which I thought was quite reasonable as long as you are competent with a soldering iron.

I however have been hankering after remote central locking for a while now so I will plumb for a new remote controlled alarm for circa £300 installed.

Again, I wish to extent my thanks to those of you who have helped.

Well it's good news"¦"¦..! The old girl coughed into action at the weekend (yeah I know "it took me long enough") and had the pleasure of stretching her legs and driving her into work today.

After a trip to Maplin's and £10 spent on components along with half an hours worth of soldering, I had the pleasure of turning the key with some confidence that she would start for the first time in over two weeks only to be greeted with nothing at all, not even a click.

Despite the solar charger, the faulty immobiliser had been happily drawing power from the battery and had worn it down to only 3 volts. (Boo hiss.!).

Anyway, after two hours charging and a nice lunch and a pint in a local pub later, much to my astonishment she started on the first attempt!

Anyway, thanks again for your help chaps, now it's time for a new cat 1 alarm to be installed.
