As I've posted a few times now I thought I would say hello.
I'm Tim,40 yr. old plumber living in Chalfont, Bucks
I've had my white/blue roof 91 s2 cab for a few months now.
I got the car as part payment from a builder who owes me money
He may go under so I grabbed his only asset that I know was paid for, this car
My intention was to tart up and sell on,however, the journey from his house to mine changed my mind.
It was a slow trip in cold weather and only managed to open her up a tiny bit,but I just fell for the her.
I am nearing MOT time now.
So far I've replaced the front to rear fuel lines,a small section of brake pipe, new rear discs pads shoes, sensors
Cleaned all the calliper surfaces as they were a bit corroded
Oil change and filters etc, replaced the cracked cat with a silencer(custom stainless made to measure)
I have also attended to a few areas of rust, shot blasting to bare metal and treating/painting.
Next to do is there is a knock/tap from engine I need to investigate and finally a clean up.
My true love is my 83 mk1 golf gti (16v kr conversion) I've had for 18 yrs. seems a few on here have a mk1 too
That's it really, see you on the forums or maybe some shows,Tim

Monday's not usually good for me :-(

Gt Kingshill....my mate lives there,he has an old 911 a mk1 golf and a dolomite sprint, you may have noticed them? He is the one who talked me into getting my car! He has had many Porsches

Welcome Timmy and great to hear the story how you came to be a 944 nut [:)]

The injectors are very noisy on these cars so it might be useful to hear someone elses car with the motor running, just in case it's the 'normal' sound

That for me is the 944 summed up in one sentence. Makes me smile ..and want one AGAIN.

Hi Tim and welcome. It's nice to get 'bitten' by a car when you don't expect it, glad you like the 944

I'm a fellow MK1 Golf fan too - only mine has spent too many years in the garage waiting to be finished!

Get some pics up of your Cab and the MK1 [;)]

Cheers
Andy

Hairyarse, If I remember you have a proper project mk1 requiring welding in numerous places, which is posted on the mk1 oc forum.I'm timmyturtle on there too.
I will try to work out how to post piccys(not very good at that sort of thing)

Saw a lovely MK1 between Amersham and Chalfont this afternoon. Always amazes me how small they are, I know the new VW UP! (oh, do I hate that name []) is bigger than the original Beetle, but is it bigger than a MK1 Golf?

Absolutely correct! And it's still not finished!

Welcome along Timmy...!

You know the 944 is well off the radar - I got mine 12 years ago, I didnt know I wanted one until I drove it, Now I could never see me being without "The Acceptable Mistress" [:D]

Welcome and glad you have decided to keep it, the knock from the engine could be the hydraulic tappets not pumping up maybe worth running some engine flush through when changing the oil and depending on your mileage choosing a different oil viscosity. My S2 does the same and has for a few years I have tried lots of different oils and will finally get the tappets changed next month. If the knock is from low down in the engine it could be the balance shaft bearing best heard from underneath the car again mine were replaced a couple of years ago almost sounds like a crankshaft knock.

I am thinking more of a bottom end knock.
What oil do people use in an s2? I have just added Mobil 1 10w60 fully synthetic on the oil change.
The oil removed was fairly dirty for a petrol car, only very slight "fluff" on the drain plug magnet though
113k showing on the mileometer
It had sat for 18 months in a cattle shed just before I picked her up
I don't think it is significant but when I removed the catalyst the whole front internals were melted!
