This evening I received the sad news that Ian MacKay passed away on 20th December after a short illness.

For those who didn't know Ian, he was a former a former Director of the Club, a former Yorkshire Regional Organiser and a staunch supporter of the Region, a font of Porsche knowledge and an all-round nice bloke.

Sharon and I last saw him at the Silverstone Classic in July when he seemed his usual self so we were really shocked to hear the news from his wife, Diana.

I understand that Ian's funeral will be held on 9th January with the wake being held at Club Office in Moreton-in-Marsh as he requested. I'm sure this will be a fitting send off for Ian whose dedication to the Porsche marque was total.

For any Yorkshire Region members who remember Ian and would like to send condolences or attend the funeral, please e-mail me for further details.

Terrible news, I remember Ian from many years ago when I first joined the club. The guy loved his Porsches, had many conversations with him about the merits of air v water.

Our thoughts are with his family.....

It is indeed sad news, that was a terrible week. A friend and colleague died suddenly and unexpectedly just 5 days before and was layed to rest today.

When Ian's death was announced a couple of days ago I recognised the name but had never met or knew Ian. I didn't know that he had been a Yorkshire RO in the past, but before my time. Our thoughts are with his family.

Funeral details

Ian's service will take place at the church, just 100yds from his house, on 9th January at 1100hrs at Milton-Under-Wychwood OX7 6JZ.

This is around 20 mins away from Cornbury House

Following the service the family wish to come straight to Cornbury House as Ian will be buried the next day in Harrow

All members who wish to attend please contact Cornbury House by 7th January so numbers can be calculated.

With Ian being an active member of my Region, I have naturally kept in touch with the family. I'm sure that a suitable obituary will in due course appear in Porsche Post, however, this will also appear in our regional column. It is reproduced here as Porsche Post will not appear again until late January:

Christmas lunch came and went (more of that later) and then we had the Club Cornbury House open day. That event was, as usual, incredibly successful and is what our Club House is for. However, the festive event was tinged with sadness as effectively we were saying goodbye to one of our Club and Region's long-standing members, Ian Mackay. Few members that day knew that Ian had been diagnosed with a brain tumour; even fewer knew how long he had to live. Very sadly Ian passed away peacefully a week or so later. Though he was one of the few R31 members to regularly attend regional meetings, I'll leave it to the Board to write more about the man who indeed was an incredible Porsche enthusiast, did much for our Club and was a director during the time I was on the Board. RIP Ian.

I think the 9th is the first day of the NEC Autocar Show where the Club will have a presence. Hopefully, many will still be able to attend the Wake in Cornbury House, but it would be nice if those on the PCGB stand at the NEC held a minutes silence at an appropriate time. I will be attending the Wake.

That's sad news indeed particularly when we we're chatting to Ian at the Classic this year and he seemed fit and well.

Our thoughts are with his family.
