How often do you use your 944?

Hi all

Like the subject line says, how often do you use your 944s? Mine is my only car, but I normally cycle to work so only use it once or twice a week on average. I was thinking of getting a second car for city driving / short local journeys, but then was wondering if leaving the 944 unused for too long (twice a month maybe?) would not be ideal for it. I do find that if I leave it for a week or longer, especially now in the cold and wet, it's not as keen to start. It does always still start, but it can sound a little reluctant at first. And I know that regular use is better for them than leaving them standing...

TIA for any thoughts.

Giles

I use mine daily. General consensus is they like being used and that has definately been my experience, keeps everything ticking over.

Hardly used it recently, about once a month the last 3-4 months as been far too busy. It does get rolled out of the garage and run up to temps at least once a week though.

Giles, as it is your only car keep it and run it, spend the pennies that would have bought you a second on the 944 and pamper it ! for the record both of mine are SORN in winter and kept on battery conditioners, i try to run them and warm them and use the brakes every couple of weeks, as i do not like them standing too long as i believe waht others say that regular use is good for them.

like you mine is my only car, I only live 3 miles from work and should cycle but take the car always reckon if i dont use it for work will end up doing silly journeys just to keep it in use. first time in 25 years i have only had one car on the road and it saves a hell of a lot of money.

milage dows not seem to harm them, a good number of 200 000 milers here now

They do thrive on miles, am i imagining it but seemed very happy after a 1500 Le Man journey last year ?

Daily,
I detest my 08 audi nannycar with bells and warnings for every time you look up, and arcade game steering.

give me my old 5 cylinder 1984 80 quattro any day

One of thoose for sale up here George had a resto and very nice it is, the guy rents a garge from my ma.

Mines tucked away for the winter, during which time im servicing it, fitting any 944 related crimbo pressies but it will make a brief appearance to go and have belts and a water pump done.

18,000 miles in 10 years 2 months answer = not enough, but she is my pride and joy and 3rd car.

Wish I did not work so much then I could drive her more

I'm a firm believer that the more you use these cars the better they run. Regular use also keeps killer damp at bay even for cars kept in the garage over winter, just make sure you wash regularly and don't let salt + winter dirt sit on car.

Mine too is only car and as said above, money saved on not having second car will keep your 944 in even better condition, managed 3000 mile trip in Europe last year in mine and feel its always coming back for more, which is good!

Now I wont be able to sleep Frenchy.......

Truely great car, simple original quattro system. When Audi made well engineered cars without the marketing slobber they roll out for a modern TT or R8.

go on then - colour, alloys or steels, roof, owners, history, miles, bucks ???????

too many toys here

Mine is my daily and I tend to use it 3-4 times a week (I work at home some days) and average around 1600 miles a month at the moment.

This week I will be driving to Reigate on Wednesday and then down to Reading on Thursday, so with my pottering around I will do the 500 miles needed to get well past the 223,000 miles by Christmas!

Buying a second car will not only cost you more money for the second car, but will also mean that the 944 will probably complain and sulk more, thus costing you twice!

Daily and all year round unless the sun is out when I take the motorcycle, I might leave it at home when the snow is really bad.

I have a van for work and my own use (for which I pay a huge amount in tax), a Galaxy for the family (in theory - it did 998 miles between MOTs last year!), so mine could be called a 3rd vehicle, but it lives on the drive and gets used whenever I'm not working and I'm not close to my mileage limit on the insurance ie like now!

Thanks chaps, I hear what you're saying. However, I find myself using the 944 for collecting logs, muddy things, the occasional short trip into town etc. And though it handles them fine, I feel a bit bad about doing that to an older car... E.g. getting out of a city parking space when 2 people have parked as close to both bumpers as humanly possible!

I was thinking of getting a little Suzuki Jimny 4x4 or similar for the rougher stuff, the dirty stuff and city driving...

giles i have a toyota rav4 for all that log type stuff but the wife uses that mostly for school runs etc.

i work away so am only around a couple of days each week and the 944 is my daily driver then, so i am using it every 4 days or so, but then for a couple of days until i next go away. i've had mine a month and have done about 700 miles in her.

to be honest i look for any excuse to take her out on the road...and i live in the northwest, so we have plenty of winter weather and salt on the roads...but i wash her off and life's too short not to take her out on a run whatever the weather!

happy motoring.

Mine is a weekend toy but I do a lot of miles at the weekends. The car is insured for 10,000 pa and will end up doing most of that so it is no "garage queen".
