Hi, I have recently purchased a 2008 Boxster super sport, it has a duck tail and front and rear spoilers (is this standard?), can anyone please tell me how many of these were made? I cant seem to get any information re standard equipment on these cars. Any information no matter how random would be gratefully received. TIA

Hi Ross,

I suspect that it could be the limited edition RS60 Spyder which was launched in 2008?

According to the How Many Left website there were 103 licensed cars and 80 on SORN in Q1 of 2025.

Not sure about the ducktail and front and rear spoilers though?🤔

Hi Ross.

As said above I have never heard of a super sport Boxster.

Hi Jeff

Thank you for the information, really appreciate it, i will get some pictures tomorrow, mine is different from the advert, it is a 2.7, same wheels and front splitter. I am thinking after a little more research that mine has been messed around with. Mine also has none standard rear lights for sure, LED black ones. It also differs from the normal Boxster with a rear diffuser, I think over time I will put it back to original but for now I am just enjoying it. I came from a younger model Audi TT Mk2 and the driving experience is so different, in a good way!

Hi Cliff

Thank you, loving the car for sure, one thing I really don't like though is the none standard exhaust (its from design 911?) start up and high revs it does sound amazing but around 2k revs its very boomy. …. getting old! Is the club a good place to sell it? TIA

Hi Ross.
Glad your enjoying the car.
Obviously a sports exhaust is very much a personal choice you may wish to purchase one that can be switched to quiet mode when needed and louder when the mood takes you.
Alternatively if not your bag replace with the standard exhaust .
You can try selling your sports exhaust in the for sale section here might be just what someone's looking for.
Enjoy

Thank you

Years ago now I had a 964 Carrera 2 and I adored that car, I am getting the same smells and noise from this one. I still have the standard exhaust so I think I will be putting it back on.. getting too old

Hi Ross,

Your 2.7 987 came originally with the speed-dependent rear spoiler, but I’m not aware of any 987s being fitted with a ducktail spoiler or a rear diffuser, so it sounds as though they were aftermarket additions at some point in the car’s history. Some photos will clarify the situation.

Good to hear that you’re back in the Porsche fold and that you’re enjoying your new purchase.

Hi

After further research I have got to the bottom on what the car is officially called, and apologies for any time wasting. The car is in fact a Sport Design Package model and not as I was told before a super sports. Looking at reference photos the back lights are defiantly not standard. So does anyone know how many are left on the road please? (its a 2.7 not a 3.2/4)

Thanks

I was just going to reply that it's the sport edition, but you beat me to it.

We had a lovely macadamia brown one 😍

I always thought the extra little bits a nice edition, that then became standard on the 981, although they probably came out of the 981 parts bin anyway.

You can see the extra bits front and rear on these photos.

Hi

You were very lucky! I waited over a year for a macadamia Boxster to buy, its by far my favourite colour, I dithered when I saw my first one and went back to buy it and it had gone in a day, but to find a sports edition …. amazing.

Glad you are enjoying the car.

I think there might be some naming cross over - as far as I know there were Sports Design Package and Sports Edition cars - they aren't the same spec.

I haven't done the full analysis on the differences, but there will be some differences in basic spec.

There are several sources for this info (including friendly OPC's) - but you can get a nicely formatted report on what the "factory shipped spec" was at

www.vinanalytics.com

It costs a few quid (probably around 20 these days - was 12 when i did mine) but you get a nice PDF to print and put in the paperwork stack

Hi Malarcy

Wow, really helpful thank you, it is a bit strange as it was sold to me as a sports edition but looking at the pictures and specs of the Sports Design Package it fits.... its a first world problem but it would be really nice to know what it is officially, either way I do like it a lot!

I will have a look and get to the bottom of it.

Hi Ross you may want to contact Nike Pike. has a 2008 orange limited edition this may be your model still not clear if you have a sport design model or a limited edition.
Give Nike a shout.

There aren't a lot of Macadamia cars around, but they look the business.

We bought it in 2018 and then sold it through WeBuyAnyCar in 2021. It ended up at a dealer in Peterborough for more than we paid for it originally. It went pretty quickly.

Would happily have another one, although a 3.4 Tip always felt risky.

Its got to be manual for me, that was one thing I was never going to change on, looked at all engine sizes and ages etc. but always a manual for me at least!
