one of the guys at JMG garage pointed out a 3.2 944 the other week i just wondered how many are about and if i was to look for one what sort of money they go for ?

Not many and lots! [:D]

I'm sure Paul, Simon or Jon will be along soon, but they're a very exclusive club (in the UK at least, there's a few other large capacity engines throughout the world, see Rennlist for more builds). They're so rare that I don't think there's a standard value, but I believe the engines were just into the 5 figure league and that's before sorting the rest of the car to make the most of it.

SimonP built three 3.2 engines for Jon at JMG

I have the first one in Baltic Blue LIL - she's down at Jons being serviced right now

Mark Dalton has the 2nd one in black (that was originally built for Ben Burt)

Mike Rozzel has the 3rd one in Red (but no one has heard from Mike in months & months)

Here's a couple of previous 'show off' threads about the building [:)]

Mine was featured in an article in 911@Porsche World and in an interview with Jon he stated a retail price of £11k to build any further 3.2 engines. The 2nd car changed hands for circa £12k last year, but Mark had to spend a bit more to get it up to his spec [;)] I'd only ever let mine go for around the same figure, make me an offer [;)]

Are these cars built with the 3.2 engine from a mid 80's 911 Carrera????? How does it fit in the engine bay, and why?

£12k is cheap Paul, Bens car was not a patch on yours and needed a bit of work, I would say £15k is the min that a 3.2 in a good late shell is worth.

[:D] Not really thinking of parting with it are you ?.

To be honest I have started thinking about it. I took it down to Jons a few weeks ago for its service and MOT and realised I'd only done 2000 miles since last year [&o] Now that I can't afford to do trackdays for the foreseeable future it just sits in the garage from one week to the next and I have no real need for it [&:] Now seems a good time to sell, as a couple of good cars have sold recently for decent money.

Would be a great shame Paul after what you've spent on her in both time, money, tears and all the other emotions you must have gone through with her. That is the nubb of something like this though - when things become too rare, valuable or expensive that you can't afford to lose them you stop using them as you originally intended. I have been tempted recently to jump ship to something more modern and expensive, but the idea that I wouldn't want to do trackdays with something more expensive has put me off. I barely get the spare time or cash at the moment to use mine on track, but at least I drive her regularly. Hope you find a way to keep her Paul. Maybe you need a few day's road trip to fall back in love with her. I always find that thoughts of selling mine are blown away by a couple of hours blast round the Derbyshire and Peaks country roads.

Seriously ?, keep the engine and put it in a 968.

Can't agree more with Scott - stick with it Paul, when it will be gone you will be kicking yourself for selling it.

Paul,

I have to say I am slightly surprised at the idea of you selling it ... is this serious, or just a vague notion that occasionally knocks around in the back of your cranium?

He must have been out in the sun too long [:D][:D].
Well for goodness' sake don't let him ever buy a cabrio then. He'd have sold it before he finished purchasing it in weather like this .... (Mind you, that would keep the mod budget down a little, wouldn't it Paul? [:)] )

Think it is a lack of use issue - when they are parked up or in pieces you forget their greatness and lose confidence in them. The costs dont reduce when they are not in regular use which adds negativity to the mix.
A driving trip with some great roads is the antidote when trackdays are not available.
Paul you are just devoid of targets now you have beaten me on the Dyno! [:)][:)][:)]
Dont sell it without calling me first.
Dont tell my wife i just typed that.
Tony
