Don't know the figures but would guess 200 or so, its quite a large area with cars all over the place.

How long do you plan to keep your 944

I bought my 944 Lux about four and a half years ago, almost by accident. I was looking to buy a classic car, as I've always been interested in them, and have owned several "modern classics". I was looking for an MGB GT at the time and came across the 944 on Ebay (shame on you I hear you say), but it looked and sounded good and I gave the bloke a call and arranged to view it. I never got to go because of work (nasty 4 letter word) and forgot about it. A week or so after the auction ended the bloke phoned me up and said that the person who won the auction was a time waster and was I still interested. There followed a long conversation where I told him I really fancied an MGB etc but he was quite persistent and in the end, just to get off the phone, I arranged to go and view the car as it was only 30 miles or so away.
I went over, saw it, and broke all the rules. The chap made all the right noises, had been a club member, didn't seem to know one end of a spanner from the other, had a huge history file, every job had always been done at a garage, and it looked super (to me). I bought it, there and then, without even a test drive, handed over the cash and drove it home.
A few days later, of course, I wondered if I had done the right thing, and after giving it a good look over myself, I took it to a specialist independant for a service and a thorough inspection. Joy of joys, I'd not been an idiot. The car is all original except the wheels and radio. And although one or two samll paint jobs have been done (small knocks) the body is 100% original, unwelded and with mostly the original paint as well.
We've now done 3 Cotswold rallies, one frontrunner, 2 MSA classics, various local runs and not long since the "Roof of England Challenge" (Wigton MCC) which was superb. In the time I've had it I've only needed to have normal servicing done, bought a set of tyres and a rear exhaust. This year I've just replaced all the discs and pads and serviced the calipers. The car drives superbly, has absolutely no problem with "modern" traffic, except when it gets in the way and is everything I could have wished for.
I got a BGT a little later on, spent several months welding and rebuilding it before I drove it in anger, realised it was nowhere near as good as the 944 (surprise, surprise) and sold it on.
Keeper? - you bet. Keep looking longingly at buying another or a 924 - one day. Already got our tickets for Silverstone Classic and will soon be up for "Porkers in the Trough".
Keep up the good work Paul.

I don't honestly know how long I'll keep the car. It's basically for sale to someone at the right price but it can stay with me forever if I'm expected to give it away.
I've had a total of 6 Porsches (3 being 944s, 2 being 911SCs and 1 Boxster S), above all I've driven many more and rate the current early 944 I have as the best. Truth is, I have perhaps overdone it a bit and I have a rather large "want" for a Series 1 Jaguar XJ6, which I can't have if I keep hold of the Porsche. I don't doubt that I'll probably buy another at some point though.
My main hope is that people stop doing the 944 down. A lot of owners, even, seem to do it down and to be frank, go drive some other Porsches and see what you actually think to this "holy grail" which is known as the "911". before you say it's a better car than the 944.

Said before but a mate has a 964 Turbo bodied car (Anniversary) a 924 and a 944T , say's he would take the 944 T if going on a long journey everytime, mind you that said he is off to Frankfurt in the 911 on Thursday, would have been co-pilot but the lovely Mrs Mike has decided to go.........good on her !

Bought my car for 3K last October, since then I have spent about 1.5K on it replacing front suspension, tyres, pads, caliper service, servicing, battery, bulbs etc etc. It probably needs about that much spent again on the outer sills as they are rusty, but other than that it is in excellent condition and has not let me down once.
The aim was to keep it for a while and get all this stuff done over the coming years but...my wife is pregnant....with twins. I just can't see how a 944S2 and twins are compatible so it will be a reluctant sale on my parts if all goes well in the next few months. I will probably only get what I paid for it, but that's cool. Every single minute I have spent in this car has been a pleasure so far and I will be sad to get rid of it.

I got my 944 just under two years ago and whilst I have only driven it for a couple of thousand miles in that time I have spent quite a lot of time and money correcting the many bodged fixes put on by previous owners and adding a few extras.
Following my investment I do intend to keep the car for a few years, and hopefully use it more.

With my change of job a year ago my turbo had to go from 80 miles a week to 500+ I have been looking to change it ever since for something 'cheap' and sensible, but whatever I buy will end up costing me in purchase and depreciation and won't be as much fun as the Porker...so she keeps soldiering on.
I have just done 2x 230 mile days with no ill effects, so I might stick her into TWG next month to sort the worst oil leak, and I will change the front discs, pads and tyres ready for winter and see how I feel in the spring...she will be way past 225,000 by then!
