Hot stuff

Hello all,
I wonder whether someone out there can advise me....................I have a 1988 registered '44 Auto which has the following problem (if it is a problem!) - the storage cubby hole underneath the radio gets incredibly hot (would easily melt chocolate), ditto the metal casing in the ashtray. The carpeted parts round the gear change get warmish but nothing like the "blimey, that's hot" of the cubby.
Is this a normal '44 thing, which I just haven't noticed before, or is it something I should take seriously?
Any advise/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Brooke

I noticed this on mine last weekend... I thought it must be just heat from the exhaust working it's way up.

Quite possibly caused by the rubber inner gear gaiter perishing and cracking, allowing haet to enter under the cnetre console.

Excellent for keeping a bacon sandwich in foil warm - every cloud has a silver lining.

Brooke - Just noticed the other front runner in your stable - would love a pic or two of that! (And the 944 of course)

The weather doesn't help of course, but there should be a heat shield over the top of the torque tube, I'd make sure thats there.

My 968 is the same, although I wonder if there is some heat-shielding missing as it has a janspeed exhaust, I also get some heat in the footwell.

I recall my 944 Turbo getting hot in the footwell. but it was actually cold around the gearstick area
