Hinge pins

Hi all anyone got a method for removing hinge pins
my drivers door lower hinge has a small amount of movement so might as well replace whilst door is off
 
How strange, I was looking at this very topic yesterday as my drivers door doesn't shut as smoothly as the passenger door (even after adjustment). Found a brilliant guide by our VW friends as the Mk2 Golf and similar had the same door pins. It seems that the pin is usually OK but that the bushing wears out, I was wondering if it was possible to take the brass bushing out of a Golf Mk2 half hinge.

This guy used a vice to press out the old hinge pin as hitting it with a punch and hammer can damage the door / hinge.

 
I bought some pins from Porsche years ago, then figured it was the bushes that were worn. I read the hinges needed to be replaced and couldn't be bothered to take the door off, so gave it a very slight tweak upwards (no jack required) and it's been fine since. The door does close easier if the window is slightly open though.
 
I'm not sure you would get that vice in on a 944 -because the door inner and outer skins are not folded flat they get in the way of everything and you need to put the force directly on the pin if you don't it just slips off -bushes are no problem they are only a few pence each and will be readily available.
hammering is going to bend the reinforcement or crack the weld.

but I don't think it will fit a 944 as the beetle using 8mm pins and the ends are very thick, so I've designed my own version -reversing the operation and making the ends small enough to fit the gap, having to use tool steel to get the strength:mad:, its being made at the machinists now should have by the weekend -if it works you welcome to use it
