Hi New Poster

Outlaw Pete

New member
Am a new poster on this site currently looking for a 944. Went to the Porsche Show in Gaydon on the weekend. Had a look at all the 944s there (ignored the 911s lol). Wondering if any of the regulars on here were there? Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Pete, welcome to the forum.

I was meant to go to Gaydon but a rather heavy night before meant I was not in best shape next morning. What variant of 944 are you looking at and have you been to see any yet? Any further questions just fire away as and when you think of them

Thanks for the friendly welcome Diver. Am currently looking for a good S2. Saw one at the show but no others, mainly been trawling online and have identified a few potentials. Would also consider a good S1 and would love a Turbo but as Mrs Outlaw may have to drive it occasionly and think it may be too much of a handful or do you guys think otherwise?

Welcome!

There will be loads of 944s at our big event in August, Porsche and Polo. See the "events" thread for details, it'll be a great chance to look at the different cars and talk to the owners.

Hi Paul

Just had a look at the events and will definately try to make an appearance but as a 944 owner (hopefully).
At the event on the weekend got to see many 944's some of which were immaculate and would love to emulate one of them.

Avoid buying a shed from ebay then mate !![:D]

Funnily enough there was a seminar on the weekend about buying porsches and he said to avoid ebay. I had been anyway sticking to sites such as pistonheads. Any other sites you can recommend?

Hi Pete,

I dropped into Gaydon for a look around. Some nice classics there and loads of 944's, 968's and 928's. The red S2 that was for sale looks like a pretty good car at the price. I think its on PH's at the moment as well. As its been agreed by all on the forum....the S2 is by far the fastest! [:D] (cue all turbo owners shaking there heads again in dismay!)

I might as well throw a few pics up of the tasty rides (not just 944's)

Also - if you are close to London there will be a few of the 944 lads heading to Fatboys diner (off the A13) on the 19/6. I think there is another PCGB meet there as well that day so good chance to have a chat and look at quite a few cars.

Hi Andrew

Yes all great looking cars i remember most of them. I think my favourite 944 was right up in the corner where the drive comes down it was a really superb red Turbo and I must have looked at it three times you probably saw it.

Shame can't see me in any of those images lol

Hey mate

Yeah that 944 turbo was very nice. It has almost convinced me i need those cup rims on mine as they looked great

I guess the S2 must be a very early example with it being an F reg? I thought I overheard someone saying that it was too old for an S2 is this correct?

You'll hear a lot of rubbish talked about any classic cars lol! [:D]

F reg are the first of the S2s, I don't know the numbers offhand but there are some around.

Look at this one for example....

A beauty maybe !

Subject to seeing it, it could be absolutely wonderful. There are very few '82 cars left, we got a few to Silverstone in 2007 for their 25th birthday. Two had consecutive chassis numbers, and one was the pre-production car of Cavan's with it's odd bits of 924 and carrera GT stuck on.

There are currently only 12 out of nearly 1000 cars on the 944 register from the first year of production. [&o]

What I thought when I heard it, I couldn't see someone at a Porsche show trying to pull a fast one. But yes seemed a very fine car.

Hello and welcome. And all the best with buying your first 944 - as Andrew said, the S2 is THE one to have! (You'll get used to the in jokes on here soon enough!) [;)]

F reg was the first S2. And there seem to be quite a few of this age around. I have one, and love it.

BUT, if you are buying one, don't worry about age. Or mileage. Buy on condition, and condition only. An old, high-mileage example may well prove to be a much, much better buy than a J-registration low-mileage, slightly neglected example.

If you are in London then there should be a decent turn-out on the 19th; 'twould be a good place to see some real cars and talk to some real owners.

Oli.

Hello and welcome, as said Fatboys should be a good'n as it seems a few of us are gatecrashing the region 20 monthly meet there, will certainly give you an idea of what you should be looking for. There are some nice 944's out there but there are also alot of dogs that will have you spending £££. Take your time, research the market and you will be best placed to find a good deal. Personally I would spend more on a good car than try and make a lesser car better as it will probably cost you more in the long term.
