Help so confused about oil for a turbo

Oil and the brands certainly are confusing!
Shell helix 10/40 for me with freq changes. Nice and clear oil too. Use the discount code from ECP and you can get 5l for £20.

I've been told the Total Quartz oil is good too. The difficulty is finding one with the correct ZDDP levels.

20w/50 seems awfully dodgy to me. Isn't that thick like treacle and when at sub 0 temps ?!  Certianly the cold startup will suffer which is where most of the wear occurs.

The easiest way to gauge what oil suits is to refer to the Owner's manual. Very clearly marked at least in terms of temps. If you get sub 0 temps on a regular basis then go down from a 20w/50.

turns out my local GSF dont do Fuchs anymore, they suggested Mobil 0w40 new life.

Spoke to Opie and they suggested Fuchs Titan GT1 xtl 5w40 cant see much info on this and it says zinc free, reading so much that zddp should be at 1400ppm. They also have Titan Supersyn 5w40 and Silkolene pro s 5w40.

Euro parts only have shell helix ultra 5w40 or hx7 semi 10w40, dubious about them anyway.

Apologies I cant believe how much over thought I'm giving this but its a low miler at 75k and it had mobil 0w40 in it at it last service several years ago before storage and want to get it right!

I was not saying to put 20W50 into the Porsche, but that out of the 20W50s used in the Stag (it is cheaper than the 10W60 VR1 my specialist suggested I admit), VR1 seems to last the longest and maintain better hot oil pressure over the rest (these included Millers, Unipart etc.) :). A half decent 10W40, 10W50 or 10W60 should see you straight :).

As for oil being pricey, I wish that I did not buy a B6 Passat with the 1.9 PD TDI engine. How pricey are 5W30s adhering to the VW 505 01 or 507 00 spec (I may get away with cheaper oils but there are too many horror stories surrounding camshaft wear on PD engines hence why VW suggest oils meeting the above specs).

Opie don't seem to have a clue in respect to old flat tappet motors. They don't need to give a damn to be honest. Much like the P dealerships. It's like asking a Pet shop what to feed your Dinosaur. Avoid Opie recommendations for our cars.

Don't understand this. Use the Platinum 5w/40 that the dealers uses. About £30 for 5l for the PD VW TDI.

noticed that Jasmine use Fuchs Titan Gt1 XTL 5w40 for their servicing

"Jasmine PorschaLink UK only use Fuchs Titan GT1 5W/40 Motor Oil when we Service your Porsche to keep your engine in tip top condition"

other than that I'm a bit stuck wanted to get / order some sooner rather than later.

Guess that leaves the sheel Helix Ultra 5w40 from Euro Parts?
