Dear All,
Can you help?

Went to my garaged 993 this am unlocked and attempted to start the car, on turning the key the alarm started and the car would not start....the starter motor runs but it is as if the immobiliser is activated. I have tried both key fobs and opened and closed several times all to no avail

Last year I had the alarm circuirt board relaced to get get a new red alarm fob and transmitter and everything has been fine since then.

We have been away for a couple of weeks but the car started an ran perfectly on Friday, the battery seems fine (so far). Its been just below zero the last few days but the car has been garaged (as usual).

Any ideas before I call the tow truck??

Thanks

David

David,

Unfortunately its nearly always the cars battery.... have you tried to jump start it ...
Same thing happened to me some years ago, whereby whilst cleaning it for a few hours with the doors open, the battery died...jump leads attached and away it went...
Cheers

Charlie

I agree with Charlie. Tthe starter whilst drawing so much power from a marginal battery convinces the alarm that the battery has been disconnected and it goes off. New battery should sort it.

Thanks Guys

Got in one: Jump started the car and it works fine, the battery is charging and seems to be taking the charge (according to the analyser at Kwik Fit!!). Just been for an hours spin to top it up and will see if I need a new battery in the AM. Probably should get a battery conditioner/charger!!

Thanks again

David

Same happened to me. Old incorrect spec battery failed as soon as temperature dropped a little. Replaced with correct Bosch item - all's well now, and even started first time after a three week stint in the garage.

Update:

Alls well and the battery seems to be holding up ok, car starts first time and is going in tomorrow for a service but I will also have the cigarette lighter converted to be live with the ignition off and then get a ctec charger.

Thanks again

David

The Ctek charger comes with an extra lead with eyelet terminals to permanently fix to the battery. The lead can be just left tucked into the corner of the trunk - all you need to do then is lift the lid and plug in (remembering to push the bonnet catch down to turn the light off). Saves paying for the cigar lighter to be made live as well if that's all you were doing it for.
