Help! I think my car’s BER

Hi all,

I’ve been a member for years but rarely post.

Very long, sad story short: I blew the head gasket and scored no4 in my 944T some time ago. Garage removed and stripped the engine and sent bare block and head to machine shop. Then went bust. Owner disappeared and I couldn’t find car or engine. I have now located car, block and head but not engine internals. Unfortunately the bearing caps are not in the block so to get it back on the road, I need a complete engine. Turbo engines appear to be like rocking horse poo.

Am I on a hiding to nothing and facing breaking what’s left or is a replacement engine feasible?

Grateful for any help & advice.

Sorry to hear about this story.

What do you mean by bearing caps? do you mean the rod end caps?

Most of the internals are the same as the standard 944 NA, shouldn't be difficult to track down the bits you need even if you need to get a used 944 engine. If you had scoring then you are looking at sleeving the block or getting the alusil overbored by a specialist machine shop that knows all about the procedure from kolbenschmidt. You will also need new pistons if overboring or sleeving.

Crankshaft, rods, rod bearings and crank bearings are no different from the standard 944. Pistons are different because of the lower compression on the turbo.

Plenty of engine rebuild threads lately, stick around and have a read through some to get an idea of the work involved.
