help cannot remove key from ignition

help urgent please

i cannot remove the key from the ignition

car in park mode with P light lit
car will start

i did have an error message yesterday saying key not removed although it was

any ideas how i can at least remove key so i can lock it safe as it is kept on the streeet

its a 996 targa 2002
 
Hi,
I once had a similar problem where I couldn’t get the key out and it was down to the fact that I hadn't pushed the tiptronic gear lever forward enough into park. You could try this, it may fix it.

thanks, been trying that but it doesnt help. the car indicates in P mode and auto stick wont go further
i tried wiggling the stick

when car is running the a/c and heating fans dont work for some reason

seems like the key just will not turn enough to let the key out

so drove the car somewhere safe and will try and fix but needs to go to a garage

does anyone know a lock specialist london/west london/windsor area ?

 
A remote thought but check fuses are all correctly seated. My steering lock fuse not being fully in place caused some issues with ignition and gear lever.
 
It is highly likely to be the ignition switch itself. They can break up inside, and stop the lock returning to the key release position. It causes all sorts of electrical gremlins. There is a DIY in the Technical Articles section.

Any good Indy will be aware of the problem. Try GT One in Chertsey if you are close by. Or Tognola Engineering in Datchet, RSJ in Slough, or Porsche Torque in Uxbridge.
 
thanks ive left car safe at a relatives
i could lock it using the spare key but with ignition key in i guess it will go flat

will try the suggestions above many thanks
 
the lock barrel needed replacing - big thanks to Precision Porsche for fitting me in at short notice

the Bluebell Steam Railway is back up and running making a visit to PP an extra adventure !
