I think the Escort thing is partly that as it had an effect on loads of lads back then and they get money and there is a limited supply, to me it makes sod all difference as whether a highly modified one went sideways in a forest back in the seventies is kind of irrelevant, am bothered how it drives now, kind of glad the 944 is still cheap as otherwise I couldn't afford one. I dont think it is that simple as there are loads off other cars with competition history that are dead cheap, the original Imprize for example but I think that is perhaps where the Escort was in the late eighties/earlly nineties, i.e. a cheap fast banger, suspect that tidy classic Imprezas could be one to watch.
