Heater Box Temp Sensor

I am in the process or replacing the 2 heater control boxes (flap boxes) which fit between the heat exchangers and the car.. My model of 3.2 is fitted with the automatic heating system [8|], and on one of the boxes (near side) has a temperature probe... My question is...
How do I know if this probe is actually functioning, is there a test I can do before going through the pain of putting everything back together and riviting the probe back in place...

Thanks for any advice....
 
I don't know how to test this type of sensor electrically but if the heater control box servo used to 'whirr' ocassionally when switched on the chances are it is working. If you can't remember turn the ignition on set the heater control so the lever rises to half way (I assume a 3.2 still has a lever) apply some heat to the sensor and the heater servo should respond and whirr and ideally the flaps should move too. If not you may need to replace the sensor
 
Better to drill and tap the holes out to 4mm then use some st/st M4x6 screws just incase future problems arise. Removed my flapper boxes and had them shot blasted then epoxy coated before refitting with new cables,heater hoses and hose clips. I did cheat slightly in that I made up my own st/st sections to accommodate the sensor!Perks of my job!
