Heater & Aircon Problems

I have a 1992 Turbo 3.3.

Not only is air not cold with aircon, but today I switched on hot air (without aircon) and the air was COOL through the side vents and driver side windscreen vent, and the passenger side windscreen vent and the center vents were slightly warm air (not hot).

I have already had some work done including replacing the cabin heater control unit (the whole box) and replaced receiver dryer and leaking expansion valve. Afterwards the aircon has been regassed but is clearly leaking, but wouldn't think this would affect the hot air.

Any ideas?

By the way, even when set at '0' my fan is constantly on and blowing slightly. My garage tells me this is normal and never stops completely. Is this true?

There are 5 fans in the 3.3 Turbo's aircon and heating system and I would guess that the 964 is very similar.

This is the 3.3 set up: There are fans on the aircon evaporator and condensor, these are controlled by the aircon dial. There is a fan either side of the front footwell, which keeps a flow of air from the heat exchangers, these are on low at all times but come on higher as the dial on the cabin heater control unit is turned up. There is a large fan in the distribution box at the back of the luggage compartment controlled by the top dash lever.

If you are getting unequal heat on the left and right then the heater boxes above the heat exchanger (under the rear seat pans) are not opeing evenly. These are controlled by an electric motor in cabin heater control unit, but the units themselves are very open to the elements and often get stuck.

Variouis sources, including my own garage tell me it could be one of the myriad motors, servos and relays that are present in the 964 set up. Its going in next month so we'll see if he gets to the bottom of it...
