Headlight woes

Hi,

The O/S headlight unit on my 2003 Cayenne S is starting to play up with all sorts of intermittent faults on the indicators, dipped, cornering and side light. The N/S unit is new after some accident repair and the O/S glass is obviously 'older' / yellowish in comparison. I would like to replace the old unit, but that depends on cost.

Meanwhile, I have removed the headlight and checked the connections on the back of each of the lamps - all of which seem OK. The locking clamp at the bottom of the light unit seems a little bit hit and miss, but once locked is secure.

Are there any known problems with headlight units of this age and known solutions? Any recommended suppliers of replacement units?

Mine does similar (2004 model).
OS side light and indicator fails, usually both at the same time. The Xenon bulb blew at the same time that this started happening (it was flashing which got me a fair bit of attention), since I replaced it (approx. 6 months ago) that bulb has been fine.
Twice the indicator bulb did fail, but normally the bulb itself is fine.

My temporary fix is to remove and reinstall the unit, I now keep the light removal tool in the glove box as it does it as lot (say every month). I have cleaned the connections (they looked OK with no sign of corrosion), it made no difference. Other than mine I had not heard of it until you mentioned it, so I don't know how common it is.
I think it might occur more often when it is raining, but it could just be that it always seems to be wet!

I will get it looked at in May when the service is due and post the solution.
 
Mine both had problems with steaming up .
The OPC fixed them but i was gobsmacked when
I had cause to take them out a few years later to find they had been
All lashed up with mastic
