Headlight problem

Has anyone had problems with the Headlight (RHS) not seating properly in the power connector..I have put it back twice,drive around for a day or so, but it keeps coming loose. Also the light doesn't seem as bright as the Left, and keeps flickering...

any thoughts/fixes would be appreciated

Flickering in mine was caused by the dip beam bulb securing clip being broken. Made a new one out of springy wire and no problem since. Believe there is a modified clip you can get that sorts this officially from your OPC.

Definitely make the spring clip change as per John Maddox above described in detail in the tech section. Also with regard to the headlamp connector, once you slide out the headlamp you can unclip the connector in the wing by turning through 90degrees. Mate this to the headlamp directly whilst you are holding it in your hand and check that the clip retention features are "clipping" correctly. If all is OK then unmate the connector and reposition it in the wing and slide everything back together.

It makes more sense when you are looking at it. Good luck.

Hi,

Yes have had the same problem also found the metal arm at the bottom had become unattached[] the one that you turn to release the headlight assembly. In the end the clip keeping the connector in the wing broke so I just plug and play like normal now the lead is long enough to put into the headlamp before you push it in. I also know now I have a good connection. I think the right hand side suffers from exposure to heat as the oil cooler and pipes are below and around it.

I had a similar prob with the headlights not seating properly and not getting a connection.

In the end, the solution was, as said above, to unclip the plastic multipin connectors from the inner wing, push them directly into the headlight connector and refit the headlight. You should have enought wire length to do this.

Check the connection between the headlight and the car where it plugs in.Sometimes this can be the problem as it does not mate properly and therefore does not connect............

Check the bulb retaining clip. The heat bends it and it doesn't seat the bulb correctly. I think Porsche sell an upgraded part, but you can bend it yourself to see if this seats the bulb properly.

as mentioned by Sturman, it has to be the plug that the head lamp mates with when you push it back into the wing, check the plug is located in its holder correctly, if it looks secure try turning it slightly. If still no luck you'll have to get a volt meter to measure the voltages at the plug (or use a bulb and bit of wire down to earth). Another alternative is to remove the front wheel and plastic front wing insert and look up above the radiator to see the plug and head lamp have mated correctly.

Sure Maurice - it seems to have failed in normal usage however I recently discovered how to remove the headlight units and took the left (failed one) out quite recently just to have a look at how the front part unclips. I did this because I was going to buy some new lenses as the current ones are a bit old and yellow.

Guess by fiddling I have now done something to bust it !

Tim - IIRC it is possible to 'unlip' the connector from the headlight unit and plug it into the car harness without fully installing the headlight - if you do this you could test the lights with absolute certainty that the connector is correctly plugged in...

This regularily happens to mine after I have changed for driving abroad. WD40 on the contacts always cures it until next time.

sorted - I had to remove the connector from it's bracket and then plug it in - seems the bracket has somehow misshaped so the connection was not being made properly. I just left it connected without replacing into the bracket and fitted the headlight back in.

(My local OPC just printed the TSB off for me - it is Serv. No. 9415. I'd load it up here it I could figure out how! However The part number for ordering the repair kit is 000.043.204.28)
