Not long now before bright lights will be needed. Last year I upgraded to HID low beam lights which made a world of difference to night driving. Despite renewing the high beam bulbs these give a rather yellow light compared to the brilliant white of the HIDs. Is this situation inevitable or would blue tint bulbs reduce the rather obvious difference?
Useful info. for those driving to Austria. Dipped beam light is mandatory during day light hours and similarly yellow safety jackets, in addition to reflective triangles, are required should anyone unfortunately have to stop at the roadside for repairs. I became aware only at the national border.

re: your recommendation for Osram Silverstar: do they replace directly for stock bulbs in 20 minutes or some bigger change needed like the HIDS system?

I will try the Osram bulbs. I had the HIDs fitted professionally so assume internals were cleaned. However, I am about to replace the lenses so I will carefully clean inside the units.

Hi,

I've got HIDS for dipped beam and I also fitted Osram Silverstars to main beam to try and match the colour of the light. I had the car MOTd today so I was stood outside watching as the tester put on the dipped and then main beam. There was still a pronounced difference in the colour of the light.Use the silverstars because they are good bulbs but in my experience they don't really do much to match the colour of the HID lights.

I'm very interested in this too (despite having upgraded to HiDs about 8 years ago). Don't get me wrong, the HiDs are fantastic, but they don't work with main beam (I did try them but the light-up time is just too slow).

I last looked for some about 6 months ago. I've just done a new search and found these (not cheap) - anyone tried them?

I've used this HID conversion designed for the 993 by Bergville for 5 years and find them very good and only 5 mins to change each side

I think LED's are fine for projector headlights but not reflector type as found in earlier cars. The Bergville kit gets 100% good feedback, why are you dubious of HID?

My concerns over HiD's are the very high voltages they generate and the delay (albeit small) time to generate maximum intensity. LED lights appear to overcome this. Also, LEDs do not require a control box, they are a simple change of bulb.

The Bergville ones were designed for the 993 and the ballast screws Into existing holes in the headlight lid, no wiring modifications either and IF the ballast goes it's easy to get another one from Bergville. Mine are very quick when you turn on too.
I also did the full exterior LED bulb change for all other bulbs and you can be seen 100% better than normal bulbs and again just remove old bulb and put new in. All from Bergville. Tore is very helpful if you need advice/help too

I fitted some on my 964 Cab back in 2009 for £80. The ballast was fitted on the right near the large grommet and the rear of the inner shell of the headlight ( the bit behind the headlight unit) was drilled to pass the cable connector through. The plugs were swapped around and it has worked flawlessly since. The bulbs are mounted on a relay like hinge so main beam is achieved with a tilt of the bulb.
From candle power to daylight in an hour.

like most probably, I've got the tore hid kit for dip which works well in standard projectors. .I have thought about also doing the morimoto projector upgrade, but not yet got around to. for mains, I have used these fanless LEDs for 18 months and they are fabulous.. great brightness and length of bulb matches std so beam pattern is unchanged.... which is important for LEDs in reflector lights to work well... needed a couple of ferrites to remove radio interference but everything fits in the light housing along with tores ballest...
