Has anyone bypassed or removed a Meta Alarm System

I have just bought a 1990 944 which was delivered on a trailer.
Apparently the car stood for 12 months unused and the previous owner only drove it for a few months before the MOT ran out and it was abandoned.

The car has a Meta Alarm System and I cannot find a user guide to show me how to arm/disarm and use it or even a wiring diagram to help me disconnect/ delete it.

The problem is it goes off at random and every time I disconnect and reconnect the battery the alarm goes off again. I have 5x neighbours living within 50 feet of the car and things are becoming fraught........

Ultimately I would like to remove the system but right now I'd settle for a bypass or even cut the wire to the sounder
This is the fob M100RC and I think the alarm unit is a Meta M99TFA although I haven't found it yet

Hi Peanut. Good luck with your new purchase.

My alarm, although its a Serpistar, behaved similar. On the side of my alarm unit under the bonnet (its behind the firewall OS) I found a sensitivity adjuster. I dialed it back a bit and no longer get false alarms. This was much appreciated at my golf club...........

With a bit of luck you may have a similar adjuster.

Hi Stuart. thank you for the good wishes . Its good to be back again with a 944 .
This morning I was determined to find the alarm box and identify it .
The Alarm system is a Meta M99T2 System and the box is tucked behind the ECU cover in the pass footwell.
I also found a mysterious box with an led, next to the battery ...might this be the sensitivity device you mentioned ?
There was also an immobiliser receiver at the back of the glove box.
Whether the immobiliser and alarm are combined or independent I haven't discovered yet.

I have a mind to unplug the 3x wire alarm sounder plug which is under the bonnet next to the fuse/relay box. I might not be able to tell if the Alarm is set or disarmed but at least it won't be annoying the neighbours anymore.

I have found a website advertising Car plug-in bypass units at a very reasonably price . It might be easier to buy and fit one of those than spend endless hours pouring over circuit diagrams with a magnifying glass and pulling the cars wiring apart. :)

There doesn't appear to be any means of adjusting the sensitivity but I have a mind to unplug the 3x wire alarm sounder plug which is under the bonnet next to the fuse/relay box. I might not be able to tell if the Alarm is set or disarmed but at least it won't be annoying the neighbours anymore.

The other box could be a hamilton and palmer original alarm system that the Porsche dealer installed at point of sale. Mine also contains one of these under the front passenger seat (with wiring also in the rear cubby next to the battery).

Mine looked like this -

yes it could be a left over of an original Factory Alarm system but i would imagine that if it was ,it would have been removed when the Meta system was installed .
I just phoned Abacus and the guy there was extremely helpful. He told me that all 3x buttons on the alarm fob are actually a single switch to Arm and Disarm. I was reluctant to open the fob to inspect it in case I broke something and apparently they are over 20 years old.

it seems that it is a System that was fitted to TVR and lotus cars so someone has retro fitted one to my car . Abacus reckon that their bypass module won't work with this Alarm system . He reckons that I could try simply unplugging it and see if the car starts and runs which would be a nice simple solution. If I try it I'll probably drive to a remote spot in the Village .

There is an anti jacking sensor and ultra sonic sensors in the cab and an Immobiliser in the glove box. Abacus guy reckons that it is one of the best and most reliable systems fitted to cars .....when they work lol

Good luck! My car has a Laserline Cat.1 system, when it was installed, they left the dealer fit alarm system in situ but not connected to anything.

Hi Peanut There's an outfit near me in Tewkesbury called Motor Mods who specialise in Alarms and Media gear. There are 2 guys there who both had 944's back in the day. Their pretty knowledgeable about Clifford, Hamilton and palmer, immobilisers etc. They might be able to help you over the phone.... one is called Derek

thanks for the tip if I get stuck I'll give them a call. Abacus apparently designed and manufactured these Meta Alarm systems and the guy who I spoke to on the phone today was very helpful.

I will try a disconnect tomorrow and if that doesn't work then I'll start tracing the wiring and remove it all as I did on my last 944S2. I was just checking to see if any members had direct personal experience with this particular system

FWIW my car came with a GT Alarm...Italian but the UK supplier long gone, One plipper was broken so, worried that if the other broke I'd be stranded, I got my indie to remove it all and just leave the H&P (which had still been active as well). Several kg of wiring and black boxes/sirens. Happy just to have the H&P...after all it was considered adequate when the cars were new and almost £40k in the bad old days of car theft and joy riding!
