handbrake woes!!!

Hi,

I'm new to 944's. I find the handbrake is a bit of a nightmare to release... I've replaced the rear shoes, adjusted, and put copper slip on all the bits but I still find that you need fingers of steel (or 2 hands!) to depress the button when the lever is pulled up.. I've pulled it up on the impossible adjustment at the lever end so it's a bit better and switched to using my index finger rather than thumb to depress the button!

Is this usual? Makes my T1 Beetle seem like a refined piece of engineering!

Pete

Something is definatley wrong, it should be lift the handle a little push the button, allow the lever to go down and let go of the button.

The hard bit is pulling it on hard enough for the thing to pass an MOT!

Must be part of the button assembly or the locking quadrant.

I found that wen mine was badly adjusted it was possible to pull it on so far that I would get this problem, a couple of times I though it would never come off when we were at traffic lights.

Once adjusted it worked as expected.

I didn't do the adjusting as I am technically inept.

Has the cable been changed. There maybe some of the old cable gland left in the orifice where it joins the body. This can cause problems as the old cable gland is generally rusted solid in and difficult to remove.
