Yep back in my garage. Got to be a raving mad move really as there are so many later good quality unsold ones out there at the mo.

She is probably one of the earlier if not earliest turbos around as she in an 85 , and yes she has more issues than a Greek mortgage broker BUT still has lovely deep paintwork with a thick coat of shiny laquer.

Someone has failed to put all her little faults right , in fact you would hardly know she had been away except that they have
kindly had the cam and balance belts done and fitted a set of refurbed deep dish tele's on her for me ! ,
thanks for that whoever you are [8D]

I'm sure that later , I will kick myself for saving her but there you go , one full day trip to Scunthorpe and back and thats what Ive done. There might be loads of faults but she still shifts like hoolie , no problem at all there. I certainly upset a few Golfs and Merc's on the way home.

fantastic news Mas.... now she'll get the TLC that she rightly deserves... early turbo with deep dish tele's... they don't come any better....:)

Just a little bias...

I hope the wheels are genuine they look right. I decided i was bringing her home pretty much whatever state she was in TBH

Ill post a pic or two tomorrow but its getting dark and after that trip im half dead

Cheers Mas

To be honest, I'm not that surprised you have toyed with this for sometime.

Pleased for you mate, hope to catch up with you soon...coming to Brighton now??

Love that kind of love story [:)]

Even if our pride & joy sometimes spends much time in the garage while waiting for funds we momentarily can't offer her it still feels good to know it's having a better life locked up here than anywhere else.

Just the car being a rare '85 tells me it deserves to be taken good care of.
Btw, does it have some of the exotic features of the very first cars, such as the clipped snorkel and the different throttle body?

You can update your sig too.

I have no idea how to tell re the throttle body m8ee , I hadn't even heard of that one until you posted it ?
All I know is that she is a pre ABS model with the earlier offset and was registered in DEC 85. Thankfully the original airbox and snorkel are still on the car as I sold my spare one recently & that would have miffed me off.

I need to tidy up one rusted wing tip ( exactly as per when I sold her) but the sills are sound as a pound , the rear spoiler needs screwing back in to the boot rail at one point then she'll at least be looking smart and suitable for the odd trip out.

and Andy you 'still' need to pop by when passing perhaps a convoy to a local event would be in order !

Mas

First reg date suggests more an '86 car than an '85, which would be ZFN in the VIN.

Anyway, enjoy! [:)]

Nice one! I bought my s2 for the 2nd time after a 2 year absence. There is also a certain security in buying a 'known car'!

It has no rear seat belts and from memory early offset wheels , no abs not sure i know much else re tbe early or late bit in truth

Oh and theres no zfn in the vin [:D]

Great story:)
I did the same thing with my black turbo, bought it back a few years after I sold it :)

Well done

i've just brought back my first 944 from SmiffyRaf.

got some work to do one the engine and cant decide whether to convert it to track / road version as it already has a bridge spoiler and 968 mirrors on it.

1985 build, but 1986 model year, making it a '1986 car'. If its an '85 build then itll be an early engine with forged rods and a thick block. Its only the first cars which had these, not all 1986s as the popular myth goes.

When Porsche realised that the cars werent failing, they moved from M44/50 to cheaper M44/51 engines, which many 1986 and all 1987 cars had.

Any sure fire way to find out if it has the early engine ? Does the dngine nhmber tell you for sure ?. i do suspect mine is 86 model year from the vin but you
never know ! it is going very well for a 200,000 miler with a chequered past

Cheers mas

Do you feed it on straw?

If anyone wants a genuine S spec Turbo with decent suspension then my old 944T is up for sale for not a lot of cash with the owner just having spent tons on it

HERE

Unfortunately as much as I`d love to I wont be buying it for if I did it will just do what it did before, sit there unused while I mess around with other cars and I`ve got the Golf and MX5 to play with..ho hum.

Hi Mas

Iirc Jon stated an early engine will not have the auto tensioner fitted, I'm not sure how reliable this would be as some
may have had these retro fitted later, I would assume the info is listed somewhere for checking via engine numbers. If not then I guess the only other way is during a rebuild when you can check the part numbers for the internals.

Pete

The stamping for the engine number is difficult to see on pre 87 blocks as it's on the left side of the block along side the clutch bellhousing.

All pre 87 blocks had frop new the excentric roller as the tensioner for the timing belt.

Buying back the old car just so you don't have to change your profile pic. The ultimate in lazy!

The truth always hurts.................[:D]

If I had the room and spare cash (currently helping my son and his girlfriend buy a house at the moment as they have saved loads but need help in topping up what they need for tax and fees etc) I`d buy it as it had a fantastic torque curve and really flew, I loved it to pieces but I`m afraid I always like a project and am not a polisher and shower of cars any more. I did all that for 10 years with a concours winning Rover P5B Coupe.

Once a car is sorted I tend to lose a bit of interest but I do remember my old 944T very very fondly indeed.

If only it were true Paul if only , and just for you i have a nice shiny new avatar [:D]

Seriously though this car has many many little issues and one not so little one so it is going to be a long haul if I do put her right or rightish [8|] .

The serious issue is that I cant believe after 3 years no one fixed the ' oil leak'. They can not have been driving it round with that stink in the cabin surely ?
I have a receipt for just after I sold it ( sold for parts/repair I may ad ! ) from a garage changing cam and balance belts , diagnosing and fixing oil leak total 800 pounds. Hoewever the same smell of burning oil still stinks your clothes out after a long run ! . The car never 'burned oil' as such but I was told it must have a drip on to the manifold or some other hot part of the engine. The car isnt really usable until I get this rectified due to the stinky fumes !

All the other issues are small like passenger window U/S , carpet tatty electric window switch hanging off ( door panel failed below it) , sunroof poor fit , no stereo , the wing corner I have to repair crappy seats ,,,,, theres more but I wont go on or I'll cry lol.

Regards

Mas
