Doing all that work but choosing one of the least-desirable V8 in existence... why? [&:]
 
So it's been done - a V8 conversion on a 944 in the UK. OK, not the GM V8's that are popular in the US but still ...

Shame he made it so ugly in the process. That bonnet bulge - ugh! [:'(]

Didn't know the Lexus V8 was so undesirable TTM - what's up with it?

There's been a Rover-engined 944 grumpling around for years. Very "interesting" fit, with most of the bulkhead gone, and apart from sounding nice I'm not sure it's an improvement. [&o]

Would be really interested to try it, on one hand it could be an utter pig, the 1UZ engine weighs 196 kilos, and I think the S2 engine is about 180 (someone correct me if I am wrong) so it isnt double the weight or anything, it should still handle, after all the gearbox is still at the back keeping it all nice and banaced, not like putting a V8 in a MK1 Escort.

That is a nice engine, the epitome of bomb proof, so many LS400's are being bought for a few hundred quid and people are removing a 200,000 mile engine, jet washign it and sticking it in something else, they rarely need opening up, if they do, just buy another, the electronics are simple enough being 1990s tech.

Power wise he says 300, early ones were 261, later ones 290, so a later one with a cone filter and freer flowing exhaust, this could be possible, qill be comfortably more than the S2 unit, torque wise it cas around another 100 lb/ft, peak is about 4000 rpm, same as peak torque in the S2, power wise they both peak at about 6000, gearing should be ok on that basis, I am thinking that power deliver wise it is probably similar than an S2, with more of everything across the same rev range, I would be slightly concerned about the gearbox/diff but being a V8 the torque delivery is fairly linear, ok, torque is torque wherever it comes from but a fettled turbo may have more, developep lower down that comes in more suddenly which to my mind would be what kills transmissions.

If it is installed well, doesnt overheat or arse then handling then I can see the point, after all, although it is a lot of work, some people have more time than money and finding a good replacement S2 unit and fitted costs a couple of grand, possibly more.

Dont know how he moved the gearbox back 1 inch, I think he means the bell housing/clutch. I am sure the hump in the bonnet could be improved, wonder how much this messes with the C of G ? Rest of the car looks straight enoigh but not sure of the T and T or is it finished, whats going on with the lights, will the mechnism still fit with that there ?

Interesting, but not seven grands worth of interesting.
 
Bodywork is interesting, but the engine swap could be worse. It could after all, be a Rover V8 (As said, there has been a Rover V8 converted 924 and a 944, although I really could not see the point in either). Although the smoothness is what I appreciated about the S2!

Speaking of engine swaps, anyone seen the 5 pot Audi lump in Scandinavian parts?

Yep, that isnt a good look, am sure it coukld be improved.
